A mixture of threads and processes that can be used to match processors, disk I/O, and network interfaces.

A very long time ago, there was once a feature called "Data Blades" which tanked a commercial database vendor. A badly behaving blade could bring down the entire database. Most anyone who has been working on databases for a few decades remembers this and makes a point of either not introducing these sorts of features or making use of processes over threads.

I have not looked at the code referenced in the mentioned project, but thus far I haven't seen a model that could craft a complete SQL parser on its own.

There are a number of problems, and design decisions, that a developer decides on when writing a database that I don't see any current models… just because you have the ingredients does not mean that the stew is edible.

You obviously have not been following Subaru, while what you are saying was once true, it has not been true for several years now.

Google "Subaru battery", read about all of the additional electrical problems that are the result of Subaru being unwilling to fix a problem that is the end result of them selling your data.

Subaru stopped making reliable cars somewhere around 2014.

MySQL never had a problem with scaling to multi-core systems; Linux on the other hand did have a problem and its problems became everyone's problems. In the early 2000's the answer to multi-core Linux issues was to buy a system running one of the commercial UNIX. By 2006 or so this became a non-issue for Linux ( for the most part ).

Postgres uses an old design model which predates threads; I have no idea if they have made any progress in updating their design. In the past I have heard the core devs talk about how difficult it would be to do this.

Oracle Database moved to a hybrid process/thread model at some point, this is the superior solution ( I have no idea if it was done well or not, but from standpoint of how to achieve better leverage of CPU vs IO, this is the way ).

If the PG devs had enough time/money, I am sure they would move towards a hybrid model where the focus would be on processor affinity with IO being all tied to events.

A number of years ago when my daughter was in the second grade the school expected them to turn in homework via this crappy power point knock-off app that would constantly crash.

I had her eventually just take screen shots and send them to the printer. From there? She would fill in her answers, take a picture of the work, and then drop the image into the power point knockoff.

We got a note from the Principal about how "printing" was not supported.

Trump's attorneys admitted in oral arguments that they had not brought this up during the appeal, so as an argument it was not saved.

Further more, historically there is no basis for the argument. Special prosecutors, which are different from the "independent counsel" that came about after Nixon; the laws around "independent counsel" expired a while ago.

"Special counsel", and all of the other similarly named, have been around since Marbury. By happenstance, some have been X-members of Congress, Cabinet members, etc... but far from all.

There is a reason why none of the other Justices brought this up, it is absurdist.

How would Meta/Facebook accomplished this without reading Amazon's communication with its customers?

You have at least two parties in any conversation, I don't see where Youtube or Amazon consented, nevertheless, the recording was being done by Meta/Facebook, which was a third-party to the communication.

There are both Federal and State laws against the sort of wire-tapping that Facebook/Meta performed.

Running a VPN service would not be wiretapping, but that is not what they were doing, and understand they had multiple avenues that they explored.

If you want to focus on just the VPN bit though; running a VPN would not break Amazon's secure communication. For Facebook/Meta to accomplish what they did they had to place fake endpoints in-between Amazon and its customers where they could pretend to be the party Amazon thought it was communicating with.

What I find really surprising is that Amazon has not sought criminal prosecution of Meta.

Even if in all cases a user selected to allow Facebook/Meta to see what they were communicating, which from reading all of the attached documents I don't believe was the case, I don't see how Amazon gave consent.

If some individual had done what Facebook/Meta did, I can't see a situation where Amazon wouldn't have asked for criminal prosecution.

Mastercard and Visa? It would be surprising to see how they would just shrug this off; maybe this hasn't hit their radar yet.

With vim you can restrict syntax highlighting by scope and/or folding, limelight.vim provides a good example how to implement this.

I say this as someone who bikes their kid around most of the time; I love biking but it is way of life that only a minority of people can make work.

FWIW The Flipper Zero can decode the wireless version of the Security+ 2.0 protocol.

The film "War of the Worlds(2005)" has effects going down to 20 Hz; to play it you will need an ATMOS AV receiver that has an LFE port to feed the signal to an amp that has LFE input. Not all amps which have an LFE input can cleanly output 20 Hz, let alone anything lower, so you would need to check the specs.

I wouldn't be surprised to discover that the original "Iron Man" movie reproduced effects at that level, but I know the "War of the Worlds" film does.

There are no announcements by Hue to developers that the CLIP API is going away, so I suspect there is a lot over speculation based on a clueless Twitter post made by some droid that most likely doesn't even understand the questions they were asked.

Philips just introduced Matter support which requires local access, and continues to support Apple Home as well. There are dozens of apps which can manage their hubs. ( FWIW I use iConnectHue. )

Philips also just introduced cameras, which did require them to update their EULA.

Active Thunderbolt Cables run at speeds of 40Gbp at 1.8m/3m.

All of Apple's Thunderbolt 4 cables are 40Gbp, the same cannot be said about all of the cables you buy from Amazon.

I use rainwater for gardening that I store in an underground cistern; I would not recommend this to most people. The water is only useful during the summer when Seattle receives no rainfall, and during the rest of the year the cistern is used to handle stormwater surges during the rest of the year. Unless you can store water in a tower, you will need a pump. The pump we have for our cistern can handle grey water; it can handle a certain amount of muck in the water. Even with filtering you will end needing to clean your cistern at some interval, and the penalty for not doing this? You will burn up the pump.

The Yale article is entirely unrealistic for residential and much of what it talks about would only work for some very large buildings that don't have any mixed usage ( if you follow the links in the article, you will find that the water system installed in the one San Fran had a starting cost of $1M dollars, which did not include all of the redundant return sanitary plumbing ).

The article glosses over the fact that you cannot re-use water in your home and that this is not going to change.

Reusing water that was used for washing your clothes?

People put all sorts of stuff into their washing machines and not all of it can be cost effectively, or even safely, reused just for toilet water.

In one word? "bleach"

Any sort of cleaning is going to involve soaps, detergents, etc... none of which you want to pump into a pipe with a smallish diameter to feed to a toilet. Environmentally? It is not worth the copper nor the electric required for a pump; a pump which would need to be designed to handle the grey water. Your municipal water is likely to be gravity fed, which is energy efficient.

Let's talk about the reality of residential properties.

Home owners are never 100% on top of every maintenance requirements and adding systems which will require ongoing maintenance and refitting? That is not viable.

Even using rainwater for toilets is not going to be cost effective, or reliable. You may believe your rain water is "all natural", but that is far from the truth once it hits your roof and makes its way to where you believe you are going to store it. It will need to be treated/cleaned before it can be use; which will then require its own pump that requires electricity.

The Yale article is misleading, at best.

With AI?

Every character in the book can be voiced in a unique manner, with the narrator matching only the character as needed.

Additionally? Those voices can be tuned for the listener; an AI that has been trained for your preferences well beyond the simple matching that AirPods do today with an audiograph.

If you listen to Audiobooks, try listening to one that has been performed by a cast.

By the year 1998 I was using the term "shard" in slides for MySQL, and I believe mSQL as well. The term might be found in Slashdot's source code. I am pretty sure I gave a talk on sharding at the open database summit in 2001.

I had previously used the term shard for an app I wrote and distributed for VMS around '92, but that app only ever had a handful of users. It was available via FTP.

If you remove the SIM card from your iPhone the managed networks are removed. If you have disabled any of the Managed Networks and remove/reinsert your SIM card the networks will be re-enabled.

Once upon a time you could edit and load your own ipcc carrier bundle, I do not know if this is still the case. ( Whether this has ever been ok/allowed/etc,... I have no idea. )

I too live in Seattle and have friends who bought a heat pump; they ended up in a hotel room and until they could had a HVAC company come to their home and install a backup heat source.

In Seattle are highest usage months for electrical is in the winter, right when you will be maxing out that 50A breaker you had to install in order power that beast; check the notes from Mitsubishi, they are clear that it is not an efficient device in the range you suggest ( and seeing how in Seattle most homes are still at 100A service you must either be living in a newer home or one with an upgraded service ).

You realize that Seattle is now an importer of electricity and is no longer running surplus?

Or how about that the city has been using an unsustainable amount of water? ( i.e. where our power comes from ) Or that our electrical come at the expense of Salmon and the endangered Orca pod that lives in the Sound?

If you replaced your "furnace", which implies a central HVAC system, with a Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat, which I believe is only installed as a mini-split, what are you doing about your air quality?

The Seattle area suffers from "inversions" through out the year; a mini-split does nothing for air quality issues. The smoke that we dealt with in the fall? That wasn't even the worst air quality issue we have had in the last decade.

I am sure your electrical bills are 1/2 of what you were paying for an electric furnace, but unless you are abandoning the use of your heat pump for providing cooling your overall energy yearly costs are unlikely to go down.

I don't know situation, I don't know what options you had when you installed your unit, and I have not listed all of the good and bad that come with the unit that you installed.

There has been a lot of "mini-splits will save the environments" coming out of our City Council; there have been zero reports presented that back up those statements. The local heating and cooling people are happy to install units which have a higher markup/generate more work for them.
