Lidar is not a backup to vision, in a waymo both lidar and vision must be working, so you actually have less reliability as now you have two single points of failure.

No, a self driving car can be either supervised or unsupervised.
I'm required to supervise my car while it drives me to work, but it is by definition fully self driving, controlling all aspects of the vehicle while I sit with hands off the wheel watching

You don't have to believe anything Elon says, just look at what he has done for the past 22 years. SpaceX was founded on the singular purpose of getting to Mars. Elon originally tried to buy ICBMs from Russia to launch to Mars, when that fell through he started his own rocket company. The entire tech stack and rockets being built are to reduce the cost of mass to orbit by the orders of magnitude needed to colonize mars. There is no other reason to build something as huge as Starship. Elon IS funding getting to mars by himself, the Starship program is mostly self funded, with the Artemis HLS contract coming well after the program was started.

In a Tesla there is a clearly labelled dedicated button on the steering wheel to active wipers and the ability to change the speed with the thumb scroll wheel, I would argue it's easier to use than twisting the barrel of a stalk that you can't see and can be in different locations hidden behind the wheel
They can not use the incredibly restrictive level 3 system nationwide, it can only be enabled on very specific highways in nevada or california in very specific situations (day time, clear weather, less than 40 mph, behind a lead car). Calling it level 3 is a marketing gimmick that you fell for.

Giga Texas isn't located in Austin... just next door, they will still be under Travis County regulations, it's not like there is now a free for all with no rules.
