I read more into it and you're right; they posted the comic, then posted a passive-aggressive "apology" comic, then started selling the shirts. They took down the shirts and apologized, and then Krahulik later said that taking down the shirts was the biggest mistake he's made. So it's actually worse than I originally thought.

My understanding of it is that they're working within the constraints of WebKit in iOS. Developers aren't able to update the icon in realtime, but if you have a homescreen webapp it can update the icon each time you launch it. This is a nice workaround, since I used to launch my homescreen weather app every ten minutes, and chances are the temperature hasn't changed much since the last time I checked. I've been using Chrome in iOS since it went on the App Store yesterday, and so far not being able to set it as my default browser doesn't seem to be holding me back too much. It replaced Safari on my dock, and my browser is usually within a single swipe on the multitasking tray at the most. Sure, you'll be thrown into Safari here and there, but that's the case for Mail as well, and I can still enjoy Sparrow.

It looks like this person put a lot of thought into how text editing could be improved in iOS, and the video is well-made. However, a great feature of the iOS keyboard is that if you press the wrong key, if your finger is still on the key, you can drag it over to the key you intended to use. Has he taken this into account? It would be pretty frustrating if I made an almost-typo, and instead of inputting the intended character, my cursor moved around.

I can't get behind this mindset. First off, who are you to say that these sorts of devices don't enrich people's lives? For this conversation, I'll concede that tablets are largely for consumption. At what point would it be enriching?

Under your rationale, if you always think of who has it worse than you, you could never have a valid complaint. "Man, I will be so disappointed if the iPad 3 doesn't have LTE." "Don't you think about starving children in Africa?"

You also can't predict whether the phones you're considering will get updated to newer versions of Android. I got burned by this when Froyo came out three months after I got a phone, and the manufacturer would not update it.

Two completely different services. Instapaper will bookmark articles to read later, and cut out everything except the text. One downside is that it doesn't seem to be able to handle multi-page articles, however some sites have a single page view (or "printer friendly").

The killer feature in my book is the iOS app. It's a universal app, and will sync your article progress across your iOS devices. I love this — perfect for, e.g., reading part of an article on your iPhone while in line at the bank, then going home and picking up where you left off on your iPad.

The livestream has only buffered for me once. Other than that it's been flawless. Very impressive.

While they're at it they need to break down voice plans a little further, too. I believe it was Dan Hesse that said he noticed people were using the phone part of their smartphone less. I don't see why I need to pay $40 for 400 minutes, most of which I don't use. I'd easily deal with half that. I just checked my account and I currently have ~4,000 rollover minutes.

Unfortunately the 4.0 software update isn't planned to be released for the iPad until the Fall. Which is frustrating to say the least as I would rather have multitasking on the iPad than the iPhone.

FWIW the latest beta of Chrome supports extensions, and there's quite a bit to choose from. Not quite at the level of Firefox, but it's a heck of a start.
