How is watching a movie or a clip in a browser on full screen not highest possible quality experience? What is gained from not watching in a browser?

Kanopy looks quite interesting and seems to be available from Germany.
EDIT: I don't get it ... seems like a special service for people registered a library or university !? :/
I left my bootlegging days behind ...
Are there alternatives to Netflix? Amazon Prime certainly isn't. Serious question - especially for German audience. I would like something with older and more niche movies. F.x. on Netflix Germany neither is nor ever was a Fellini flick ... actually "Federico Fellini" is not even suggested upon searching for "Fellini".

- Fandor: only US and CAN
- Mubi: also Germany
- Filmstruck: not Germany
- Yaddo: apparently worldwide
(skipped what didn't appeal to me)
i usually try to materialize a hot chick and have sex ... afterwards i tend to blame myself for not having used the opportunity for constructive self-inspection.
for a second I was worried that this refers to vaping weed - my little VapCap M can't do no harm ...
i usually drink a glass of water with a little bit of table salt. it's more isotonic and therefore more refreshing. the benefit is even more sensible when i do sports. fewer or no muscle spasms/jittering because the minerals of the salt improve nerve signaling.
and physical threats
that you interprete that as a physical threat tells more about you than me. I'm certainly not getting physical against anybody at work or pretty much anywhere else ... I'm talking about standing up against bullying by verbal or legal means.
I wouldn't be "offended" by others playing with nerf guns but certainly annoyed ... but I would be offended if others would involve me in this pretty infantile and sub-radar-bullying pastime. who do you think is going to get shot at on a regular basis? but of course it's just fun - right?
and no - repetitive exposure to sexualized remarks without positive feedback is sexual harassment.
and I am saying that as a European guy who is slightly infamous for very direct and obvious flirting - even at work. but as soon as I get a rejection - even a polite one - I'm going to just accept it and move on.
guys like you make work life a terrible experience for others by forcing your idea of fun on them. you should hope to never meet a guy like me b/c that's not going to be a fun experience for you in the end.
whiteboard tests are always going to produce fuzzy red and white flags. those will come handy later when it gets to assessing the applicant based on sympathy and arbitrary objective arguments are required to back whatever the interviewer wants to conclude.
now we don't need stand-ups. couple of months ago they were the best since sliced bread. in job interviews i still get asked every time how often we do stand-ups - right after whether my team is lean, agile or design thinking. good lord have mercy ...
i had very bad experiences 1st and 2nd hand with Acer, though. unprovoked crashes, WiFi not working without significant research and fiddling. multiple models.
two of several appeals of Linux to me are the fact that it is free and modest on resources.
from that angle it seems slightly ironic that all those great Linux laptops leave the 1000 usd mark way behind them.
thing is, I'm actually intending to buy a laptop and have Mint run on it.
any suggestions for a laptop cheaper than 1k?
I'm eyeing Dell latitude 5480.
I can travel in my mind by reading and meditating.
Actual traveling is mostly just an excuse to distract oneself from exploring one's own inner unknown territory.
I never gained anything by visiting a new place b/c at the end of the day everything is pretty much the same. Of course it is exciting and I also totally enjoy it - but real growth is not dependent on that at all.
interesting point
interesting that you come forward with music resulting from this approach as not being very rewarding. but why is that so? I'm not a musician, so maybe I'm naive - but shouldn't music programming be able to produce anything and beyond?
i am very excited by the idea to create music by means of programming. but it seems that there isn't even a single project with an active community. supercollider seems to be the most popular with regard to GitHub stats. Sonic pi seems to be the most recent endeavor in this area. but it doesn't offer any deb-packages. compiling for Debian/Ubuntu seems to be not documented.
my impression is that this is coming up every couple of years but nobody so far succeeded at actually producing a system that gains meaningful popularity. not to mention how difficult it was too compile/set up the software for the various projects i have tried.
another problem is that very few YouTube tutorials showcase rythms and melodies going beyond something resembling a ping pong match on speed.
would love to hear your opinion.
Just had my last day today as the CTO.
I quit b/c we got bought by a corporation about a year ago. The purpose of this purchase was to integrate our technology and our customers into the stack of that corporation. So basically we got dumped with requirements to add features only relevant to that corporation. That totally overwhelmed the capacity of the IT team which already was working at a limit. Some days it all felt like a big house of cards just waiting to collapse due to a little inattention on our side. I mean if an IT department is forced to push the envelope all your best practices are being thrown over board. That just took a toll on me. So to protect my health I decided to leave this company I very much enjoyed working for and help building up for three years.
To some extent, yes. No need for confusion.
it's true though - society and culture collectively create taboos of various kinds to organize group behavior according to goals like wealth maximization, power and hierarchy conservation.
a bad trip, psychosis and maybe even PTSD. I take LSD and other psychedelics on a regular basis and if you know how to prepare for a trip then bad experiences are unlikely. but a bad experience on LSD can be really unsettling. this concept of set and setting is true after all.
there is nothing about babies being super humans and also nothing about cell-division or anything about healing ... did you even bother reading the post?
People become addicted for psychological reasons and because of hopelessness. Those reasons need to be addressed by counseling.
Of course when talking about a society dealing with drugs in a liberal fashion one quickly ends up imagining utopias where people don't have reasons to escape their sad reality. Thinking about better worlds is not a bad thing at all - it's just painful realizing how faaaaar away we are from it.
well - with more responsibility the force of natural selection will become more prominent - I don't think that is a bad thing.
and the idea of recent generations having to face less and less responsibility is not just pop psychology. I think it is quite obvious with parents picking up their children at school (helicopter parenting) despite public transportation being more comfortable and crime rates being lower than in the past.
And it wears at some members of your community more than others.
Those may seek help or suffer - their choice.
As adults we should take responsibility for our community by fixing what ails us.
And this is not being done by prohibiting drugs but by working on the reasons why people start to abuse drugs.
it really is that simple.
My stance it to place the responsibility for educating yourself about LSD before taking it on an adult. If that adult doesn't do that - then that's no different to me from driving too fast and causing an accident or trying to climb a mountain without proper preparation and equipment.
Adults have the right to die, to suffer and to harm themselves - I prefer to not get there. But I don't see why the state should base laws on this b/c this will also affect the freedom of me and others who act responsible.
Regulated manufacturing - like with food and then controlled selling like with alcohol, cigarettes or medical drugs.
I mean nothing is bad by itself - we don't prohibit knives b/c people stab each other.
But with this approach to train adults to not take responsibility. I am all for placing full responsibility on every adult - one has to learn to deal with this of course and the current state of society is opposing it. Otherwise people couldn't sue manufacturers for having put their pets into microwave ovens or for getting cancer from smoking. I know this will cause colateral damage from people doing stupid or bad things on drugs - but the opposite isn't much better - to train a generation towards non-responsibility - this is probably causing more damage. We are just used to it. If somebody decides to take drugs and destroy his/her life - that is very sad - but so be it. Those people should be helped - and even this will be easier when taking drugs is not being criminalized.
For me this is a simple philosophical question.
An adult should be allowed to do whatever s/he likes as long as it is not harming others. If harm to others is done - even under the influence - then punishment is due. But as long as somebody just does something in private - it must be okay.
I have plenty of experience with psychedlics - be it LSD, Psilocibin, DMT or 4-ACO-DMT. I know from own experience that a bad trip can be very unsettling. But as an adult it is first of all my right to take that risk and second of all it is a maturing experience.
The state should not be allowed to prohibit anything when done in private. The concepts behind drug prohibition are pretty much the same as behind prohibition of homosexual practices. People also say this should not be allowed because it is bad and young children will be molested etc pp.
I don't remember any significant bugs in studivz. Also, in my opinion, the site's design was very clear and straightforward. I definitely preferred it over Facebook and would still.
