That said, Furan isn't suitable for untrusted Dockerfiles (or multi-tenant environments) exactly due to the security implications of access to the Docker engine socket.
The issue I see with Kaniko is drift from upstream Moby/Docker syntax. One of the strengths with Furan is that you have the guarantee that the Docker build you perform locally is exactly what happens by the service. When you can't make this guarantee you get into weird situations where "the build works for me locally" but there's some issue when doing a remote build. That's also why we've resisted putting special build magic into Furan (like injecting metadata into the build context, for example).
Option 2 is very similar to how signal handlers work in Go. When a signal is received, a value is written to a channel and the library user is responsible for reading values from the channel and responding appropriately.

Tests absolutely cost time, inversely proportionate to the raw ability of the programmer. A 95th percentile engineer can write cowboy code with zero tests that largely works. Enforcing tests could cause up to a 50% slowdown. It’s probably worth it in the long run, but for a time and cash strapped startup its a legitimate cost/benefit analysis.
That's why they're the dominant player. Because even when a horrible defect is exposed people still desire the product over the competition.
Imagine seriously believing that guaranteed lifetime employment, very generous pension and health benefits (unheard of in the private sector), a well-defined career ladder as well as a six figure salary somehow aren't enough. Out of the other side of your mouth claim that these people are public servants selflessly working for the good of all.
The reality is that the compensation package for government workers primarily appeals to those with average to mediocre ability and a strong aversion to risk (often also a tolerance for boring, repetitive work and/or bureaucratic infighting). When was the last time you met a bright, creative superstar working at your local DMV office?
That's why the US Digital Service is actually a pretty good idea. Tours of duty are preferable to lifetime career hires. I'd like to see much more of the federal government adopt that model.

The basic strategy is to woo Western companies with extremely cheap labor and vague promises about access to the Chinese market, in order to get the companies to export most/all of their capital equipment and business expertise overseas. Then this is used as leverage to force them to adopt PRC-friendly policies (see Apple and government censorship in China, for example) and IP transfer to Chinese firms. Keep in mind that in China there is no objective judicial system as in the West to mediate disputes between the government and firms; once your assets are there you are at the mercy of the PRC.
It's really important to understand that this is a long-term geopolitical strategy by the PRC to supplant the US as the dominant global superpower, and a big part of it is siphoning off the industrial and manufacturing capacity of the west (see One Belt One Road Initiative).

Agreed. There is a strong drive in industry to commoditize "coding". For example, the wide proliferation of bootcamps. The world being what it is, if the perceived skill is equal companies would prefer to hire the cheaper 20 year old bootcamp grad vs the more expensive 45 yr old. So it's important to grow your skills and knowledge in areas that are not vulnerable to bootcamp commodification.

This is insane. Show me one conservative-leaning media startup that was saved (or turned profitable!) through "deregulation and tax cuts" without reliance on other streams of revenue.
Unless you somehow mean that a better, faster-growing economy via deregulation and tax cuts results in better business outcomes overall, regardless of political leanings, which I would agree with enthusiastically.
It's not just battery manufacturing, it's everything manufacturing. It's clear that Musk (therefore Tesla) is addicted to the rush of developing and releasing new products but are loathe to dedicate time towards the boring, iterative process of manufacturing optimization. To the point of farming out as much manufacturing as possible to third parties (Panasonic, China).
It's clear they want to be a design shop in the vein of an Apple, as opposed to an industrial manufacturer like GM/Ford/GE. I would not be surprised to see them offshore manufacturing more and more in the future (see their recent China deal).
When you have hundreds of thousands of customers with paid reservations waiting for Model 3s, why on Earth would you spend resources launching another product line? It’s madness.
In NYC (Manhattan, specifically), the external costs associated with driving (bridge/tunnel fees, parking) are so expensive that it prices out a large fraction of the population. That doesn't mean that driving a car wouldn't be subjectively more pleasant for them than the subway.
Some people don't like hamburgers. That isn't a data point against McDonald's being successful.
OP means "better" in the subjective sense. They're more comfortable, more convenient and faster. It takes a very large degree of external difficulty (traffic, parking) to tip the scales enough in favor of mass transit to make the latter desirable for most people who can afford a private vehicle.
The reason the majority of people in cities favor investing in mass transit is in the hope that other people use it so they can continue to drive and enjoy less traffic and more parking.
In my experience, Boston to Providence is pretty fast and pleasant. The issue is the rest of the way to NYC, which crawls through Connecticut at a snail's pace and takes something like 3.5 hours. It's a pretty brutal trip.

The federal government was never intended to administer services or benefits directly to all US citizens. The US Constitution enumerates a very limited set of federal powers: defense, foreign policy and regulation of interstate commerce, none of which concerns the average citizen day to day. It was intended for state and local governments to directly serve the people in almost all circumstances.
The New Deal was a terrible imposition of big government on the country and we're dealing with the cascade of problems and constitutional issues to this day, SSNs being a very visible example.
So this is essentially the taxpayer paying to build out infrastructure that private enterprise then runs and collects profits on right? This is a good thing? Wasn't that always the argument why pharmaceutical companies are so evil, because they appropriate public research for private profit?

Compare these financials to Uber, Snap or even Twitter. It's not even the same league of money loss. Furthermore, AMD actually was competitive with Intel for a period, and may do so again.
"Up to". Also we don't know how many underlying SSD devices there are, which is my point. This is a single drive that supports radically more sustained random IOPS than we've ever seen, at a very low price point compared to comparable solutions.
500k sustained random IOPS from a single device is remarkable. To put that in perspective, 500k PIOPS in AWS would cost you $32,500/month (https://aws.amazon.com/ebs/pricing/).
This drive looks like it would be amazing for database workloads, for example.
