Does nobody care that iPadOS lost its old Split View workflow? I would never consider another iPad until it's brought back. Their multitasking story is a total mess at the moment. Hopefully Lemay can work it into iPadOS 27

This is what I'm most interested in. My only hope at the moment is for Apple to revive the iPhone mini -- even if they only refresh it every 3-5 years! I'm so bummed I'll be 'forced' to upgrade from my 12 mini later this year for mostly camera and battery reasons, but oh how I wish an iPhone 17 mini was on the horizon.

I love Libby. It's introduced me to so many titles by browsing what's currently available that I otherwise would've skipped over. The 21 day loan period gives me just enough of a gentle push to read that I wouldn't have if I owned the book outright.

Nailed it. It's honestly criminal and something I consider UX terrorism the way macOS lacks this basic functionality when even something like ChromeOS ships these by default. Wonderful hardware, but boy is the OS rough 20+ years later.

I admire the Beeper team’s effort, but this post playing the victim card is deranged. Beeper was trying to turn a profit piggy-backing on Apple’s servers and Apple curbing access is construed as “interference”, lol.

I don’t know if it would’ve made a difference, but charging a subscription out of the gate and poking the bear by claiming Apple would have a difficult time blocking access doomed this project from the start.

Cool idea, but it could use some work. For example, Italian-Spanish (Masculine) should yield 'Matteo' or 'Mateo' but seemingly doesn't because of a 't' despite being essentially the same name.

Admittedly cynical take, but please don’t let anybody mess up Pocket Casts. That app is near perfection and has been criminally underrated for far too long.

This will absolutely be a commercial failure. I don't harbor any ill will to anybody in the company, and I wish them the best, but a voice interface in public is a complete non-starter. What is the use-case for this device for which a comparably-priced smartphone isn't better...much better? The only real distinguishing feature this thing has over a smartphone is projection, and even that doesn't seem too difficult to tack onto future models.

Once the AI Pin replies with a "sorry, couldn't get that" a few times, people will give up on it and reach for their phones. I could see it finding some success in the accessibility market, but outside of niche applications, I don't think this thing sticks around.

You can switch to a following-only view, but it resets whenever the app is re-launched, which is a real scummy pattern.

Agree on the need for a proper website that isn’t read-only. I get that most usage will come from mobile, but for the more interesting and prolific posters, tapping out blurbs and interacting with others on mobile is a second-rate experience that doesn’t feel as rich when compared to using a web app.

Meta’s working on it, so hopefully we’ll see if the culture of the service shifts away from that Instagram feel.

Building your business on the back of somebody else's API is always gonna be a risky endeavor. Luckily, Apollo is a great client with loyal users, so hopefully Christian can spin off his own backend forum and build from there. Reddit's been making some dubious moves (crypto avatar-things, hostile dark patterns steering mobile web users to their app, more ads, etc) that I wouldn't be surprised if more and more users went looking for an alternative with a similar flavor.

The 2024 ID.4 will likely have an option for their new APP550 motor which will produce 282 hp and a maximum torque of 406 lb-ft. This should help bring it in line with the Y, but probably at a higher cost initially until they can scale production.

Same here. Does what I need it to do, but I've noticed that it only syncs one-way with NetNewsWire (pulls feeds in, but won't update read status), unfortunately. It's still good enough for my needs as I'm not subbed to that many feeds.

So they only support Apple Pencil Gen 1, but remove the Lightning port which it requires for charging, so they sell you a dongle, but the environment is important to Apple. Okay.

What's the point of the flat edges if you're not going to support the Apple Pencil Gen 2? I get that a company like Apple deals in massive scale, but this seems so off-putting as a consumer. Just merge the iPad Air and iPad lines already, they're doing some sad technical gymnastics trying to differentiate the lines.

I don't really have anything to add except that I'm grateful you brought this up because reading your comment and its replies was a nice reminder that we're not alone. One day our young kids will grow up and be more independent, which is bittersweet, but 100% necessary if I'm to have any life. Hang in there, parents.

This was very uncomfortable for me to listen to. I felt compelled to close out of the tab 3 minutes into it. While I can appreciate that the AI has stitched together dialogue read by synthesized voices, ultimately it sounded like nonsense and an invasion of privacy for both parties. Maybe I'm just weird and have a low tolerance for that uncanny valley feeling.

I noticed today I can't find the Chrome flag (v105) to enable its reader mode. It's like they just nuked it since it made articles actually readable. It's not a huge deal, but I liked not having to launch another service like Pocket.

Glad to read there's others like me. My friends and family like to poke fun at me for carrying ear plugs, but I find most audio too damn loud at events and it's nice to be able to shave 30dB off and know I'm not damaging my hearing.

I'd add Dr. Ted Naiman to that list. He advocates for quick workouts each day and prioritizing a favorable protein:calorie ratio for eating. He's also down to earth and entertaining to listen to IMO.

This is basically what life is like in South Florida half the year. We have the benefit of ubiquitous air conditioning, but going outside feels gross from April to October.

While it's implied, another added benefit would be that cars in warm climates would no longer have to blast their A/C after a day of work after the sun has incinerated its interior to 120°.

MLS will steadily grow over the next decade, of that I have no doubt. I think soccer in America has a ceiling, though. NFL and NBA will be #1 and #2 for a long, long time, but MLS could surpass NHL, and maybe MLB by the end of the decade if its momentum continues.

In any case, I'm so geeked over this deal. MLS is the only league I enjoy anymore. I dig parity and salary-capped leagues, and soccer has this suspense about it where every minute matters unlike most other sports. Great pickup for Apple.

This is such an intelligent move, and one I've been secretly hoping Apple would make: get the streaming rights to a league that's "up and coming" and very popular with a younger demographic for what I assume is a bargain compared to most other top leagues. Sure, it's not the NFL or NBA, but it's a great addition nonetheless. This is an insta-subscribe for me.
