Not surprised at all. I know a lot of people that upload sensitive docs to format conversion free sites (like jpg to pdf converter, joining pdfs etc).

Merry Christmas from San Francisco.
I found these podcasts on 1-1s interesting https://www.manager-tools.com/manager-tools-basics
Wow, so sad. Like Jobs, he dying young is a loss to humanity.
"ByteDance’s top earners make more than $1 million a year plus stock options, with total compensation sometimes exceeding $3 million. " I bet top earners at Google, Facebook etc make much more than this.
It's great you were able to find a solution! Best wishes.
The study doesn't compare equity held by men and women in same position, but total equity. There is a huge imbalance in equity held by founders/execs most of which are men.
Getting up early.
Not a course, but I've enjoyed SE radio podcasts.
I've liked bogleheads forum. The usual advice would be to maxmimize 401(k), ROTH IRA and invest in index funds.
That's not true. It's a dual intent visa - otherwise one would not be allowed to file for green card while being on H1 visa
Wow. What sort of programming do you do? Do you mind sharing how to get to such a level, skills needed etc?
Great tips - I especially loved the 4th one. Thanks for writing it up.
Great idea. Thanks for posting it. I'm motivated to do the same.
Sad day for Indians. He has been a great inspiration for many students and children. May his soul rest in peace.
Awesome talk. Really got me into thinking on paying more attention to design of login/checkout pages.
Perhaps, lack of understanding on my side, but what does "their number will be up" mean? From what I've heard, it's most often the case that developers want to move into trading.
What is a typical path from dev->trader? Should one join a hedge fund as a programmer and then step up the ladder?
I'd rather be trading on someone else's money :) My question is about how to get foot into the door as a trader.
I was wondering the same. How hard is it to go from a programmer to a trader in a bank?
Since Google knows a lot about me (for eg) by parsing my emails (I use gmail) and knows about the sites I visit too (Chrome and thru Adsense on 3rd websites), Google is in a much better position to provide me with more relevant results(and ads) than Bing, since I don't use much Microsoft's online services.
It's interesting how Google got it mixed up as well. All the news stories for the stock are for the 'real' Twitter.
Probably the easier startup lottery these days could be join a startup that is rumored to be an IPO. I'm not sure if software engineers get to make millions, but even 500K to 1M vested over 4 years is pretty good.
Thanks for the clarification. Is it feasible to get into a prop shop or hedge fund as a programmer and "graduate" to trader? How common is it?
I'm not sure how much bonuses software engineers get. I've heard it's great for bankers, traders etc. But do software engineers(who work on building infra/tools, not the kind who write trading algos) get paid good bonuses as well? By good I mean 30%+
Yahoo! turned down an offer of 60M from AOL in early days of internet boom. Facebook turned down Yahoo!'s 1B offer. Google turned down Yahoo!'s 3B offer.
This is awesome. Very useful. Also would be useful is a full list of countries that don't need a visa for, based on my citizenship.
75K for top 1%? Anecdotally an average(not top 1%) fresh grad in companies like Microsoft,Google,FB or (insert any other big co) etc these days get about 80-120K(depending on your negotiation skills, competing offers, school where you went to etc), not to mention ESPP every year,RSUs/options. If any average grad at these companies can make so much, shouldn't top 1% be getting much more?
Also more than the offer, Fog Creek is not known to people who don't follow tech news, read Joel's articles etc. But everyone knows and uses a (insert a big co)'s product and that reputation definitely stands out.
This blog post says much about Yammer CEO, than about Yahoo! employees
Not to mention, I guess Yahoo! tends to pay really well (that won't be matched by Google/MS etc)
