LOL as someone using a Lenovo, right now, let me just say this:

If you buy it over an Apple, you get what you deserve. The quality from Lenovo has been declining since they bought the brand from IBM. Thinkpad's are a SHADOW of their former glory, sadly.

Here's something people don't factor in when buying laptops: Your expensive MacBook Pro is having issues? Well, visit an Apple store and get it fixed!

Your expensive Lenovo is having issues? Well... mail it back...

But you still didn't make the comparison, you told other people to do it. Until you make the comparison, I'm still betting that the Lenovo cuts corners in a variety of ways to make the product cheaper, and as a consumer you have to accept those cost-cutting trade offs.

Your reply once again proves that you're incapable of understanding the players, and instead of attempting to understand, you're judging and insulting them and how they freely choose to spend their time.

Seriously just because you don't like something doesn't mean people who do are brainwashed. That's extremely pretentious and offensive and I really have nothing more to say to you.

What BS. Why on Earth should games be sterilized down to ensure that all players receive an equal treatment? That's not how it works, not at all, because primarily: You can't control players, and players affect each other's experience.

But even past that, you seem to be saying that all MMO's should be designed for the lowest common denominator.

Why make guild raids when casual players can't get into top tier guilds?

Why make 40 man dungeon raids when casual players can't find groups larger than 5?

Why make the game have 80 levels when casual players, on average, will only reach 60 of them?

My real question is: Why punish avid gamers by condescendingly referring to their passion as unhealthy?

It seems to me that attempting to force every player into one paradigm is a great way to alienate everyone except players who that paradigm was designed for.

If you make a game that appeals to casual gamers -- do not be surprised when hardcore gamers skip it!

This is the beauty of the MMO: content for everyone and theoretically, the hardcore gamer's contribution to the game world will ripple out and affect other gamers, not only psychologically (I want to be that good) but materially, as they affect economies and other systems...

The big issue is: The new iPod Touch 5th gen is $300. For a 4" screen. How can they sell the new iPad at even $300? It would have to be $350, minimum. The iPad 2 is still $400, why buy a 7" for $400 when a 10" is $400??

I don't see how Apple is going to price this effectively without cannibalizing their own markets. I guess they could switch up the 5th gen pricing but they JUST announced it, and it would come across as a cheap trick to move the rest of the 4th gens at full price.

>It hurts Apple's customers because they are blocking a superior free product for no apparent reason but to kill competition.

Misinformation. Apple isn't BLOCKING anything!

Apple released, in iOS1, Apple Maps powered by Google Maps API Data.

Google, wanting to monetize Google Maps API access, began charging expensive rates for their heavy users, of which Apple was the heaviest user of all.

In response to Google asking Apple for millions of dollars for a service they provide for free on every other platform, Apple decide to change the data source in Apple Maps.

Google has yet to provide their own app on iOS for mapping, as they're likely pissed that their million-dollar-lunch just ended and now they have to provide a service for FREE.

I'm so tired of this blatantly anti-Apple bias.

I know, right? They're about 80% as good as Google maps for me. They do all the same things, but admittedly I haven't done obscure turn by turn (then again, it didn't do turn by turn at all before...).

I disagree with the cutting the deal short. The Maps app was in beta for months, was announced in April and I bet that Google knew it was coming even before the official announcement.

Quite frankly, Google has had plenty of time to be working on a Maps application for iOS. It's not like they have to reinvent the wheel with this, they have iOS development teams and experience with mobile mapping applications.

I think that Google willfully chose not to have a product ready. It's a good explanation when you realize they had months of lead time, and when you factor in all of the CEO "I don't know nothing' about no app" comments.

Yes, they should have teamed up with another direct competitor, because that's worked so well for them in the past.

Why go through Microsoft when their data is Nokia based anyway?

I dislike that a Google search for "Mozilla Persona" returns Firefox Personas first, meaning that Mozilla now has 'Persona' and 'Personas' projects that are totally and completely unrelated to one another.

Something has to give because if it confuses a Hacker News reader, it's going to go completely over the head of the average computer user.

I think people don't understand how disruptive electric cars will be, when combined with autonomous cars.

When all you do is pull out your cellphone, select a route and a car picks you up in 5 minutes, takes you to your destination, and leaves... you don't worry about range and electricity and recharge.

You just use it, and the system can intelligently maintain battery levels and recharging across the fleet, ensuring efficiency.

Heck, such a system could provide gasoline or hybrid cars for trips that required them.

Exactly. Bored people go to Facebook.com. Bored? Type Facebook.com. That's what people do. And considering the influx of "content" pages, like George Takei's, which provide continuous content updates all day long, I can see why people check back frequently when they're bored.

Subscribe to 5-10 "content" feeds and your wall will always have another joke or post to read...

Many people do this, I imagine.

"Still using Facebook"

It's like you're actively denying the fact that it is, TODAY, the largest and most used social network in history.

Would you at least let it BEGIN it's user decline before you call it dead?

Let me guess: You ran to G+ on Day 1 (because one large advertising company is worse than another large advertising + email + search company...)

4 days shouldn't. A minority of Android devices, notably the most recent flagships, are getting decent upgrades.

But even a glance at what version of Android is being used: http://developer.android.com/about/dashboards/index.html shows that over 2/3 of all Android Users are still on 2.x or before, and it's very likely that many of them will never have an opportunity to upgrade.

That gets me frothy. iPhones get 3 to 3.5 years of updates, and Android devices averaged on whole are getting what, 1.5 to 2 years? Maybe less, considering how many aren't being updated?

The answer of "only buy a flagship" is bunk. If Google supported that answer, they should cut out the cruft. But Android is more than flagships.

Anecdotally, I have the opposite experience. I can think of three Android users in my friend group so disillusioned with their SGS1 and 2 that they want to abandon Android as fast as possible.

Doing an OTA update on day one in fifteen minutes is a big factor. Nerds/tech crowd can get through Android updates but for the average user it's an utter clusterf* of a nightmare.

More work goes into figuring out IF your Android device will be updated than goes into the entire iOS update process...

I never said that Apple was blameless, but rather I am arguing that they are not "leading the way".

Remember, Apple sued Samsung with patents made in house with Steve Jobs name on it.

Samsung sues with standards essential patents and patents it's bought like warheads for the sole purpose of using in court.

And you want me to believe that Apple is the cancer?

Apple carries blame but this is just like Foxconn -- Everyone uses them, only Apple gets the blame.

Hardware is dead 14 years ago

It wasn't crappy at the time. For those of us used to Windows 3.x it was amazing.

This is more akin to selling Windows 95 on machines after Windows 98SE was already out. At that point, yes, 95 was considered terrible.

BS. Patent trolls have been around for a very long time, and companies like IBM represent the lionshare of patent applications.

Apple themselves files one of the lowest numbers of offensive patent lawsuits -- it's just a confirmation bias mixed with the massive publicity that Apple gets.

Just because you hear about EVERY one of Apple's lawsuits doesn't mean that Apple is "paving the way"!

I hate the knee-jerk "blame Apple" nonsense that is so pervasive! What is Apple doing that is so groundbreaking to patents?

I argue that the weaponization of patents, something APPLE TAKES NO PART IN, is a far worse problem. Google buying up Motorola for their patent portfolio and loaning them out to partners like dirty nukes... and APPLE is the leader of patent nonsense?

Hardware is dead 14 years ago

Android 2.3, never going to get updated, crappy resolution, slow single core processor...

Honestly, it's going to suck compared to a Nexus 7. Remember, Android 2.3 IS NOT a tablet operating system, the first of which was 3.0, so it's basically a 7" non-cellular Android phone.

I know, right?

Considering how many times in the trials people have been unable to tell APPLE AND SAMSUNG products apart, you'd think readers here would realize that those people are obviously going to have trouble with products in the same family!
