I do believe the frontpage has lost some of it's magic over the years. But the 'new' pages still have plenty of interesting topics that don't get the upvotes.
I went from on-metal K8s clusters, which were a complete PITA and required a full team to manage, to using EKS which has been everything K8s should be... easy peasy.
Two companies ago I had a wonderful koi pond outside the office around which my 1:1 and I would walk around and enjoy the tranquility. It was great and I very much miss it.
I spent several years at a SaaS which was plagued with toxic positivity. The underpinning platform was slapdash and took 4x the expected time to add features because of it. Yet the GM walked around trumpeting that we were fielding a best in class offering.
Any mention of the reality of the situation was met with replies about not being a team player and showing negativity. It was an absolute morale killer for the development and SRE teams charged with on-call rotations which resulted in exhaustion and frequent outages.
Start-up code is often naive and hastily put together. Growth pains are expected as customer count and revenue increase. Don't bullshit the situation with false positivity. Address the issues and live to fight another day.
In the end, that SaaS has slowly faded away to obsolescence due to the lack of honesty about the actual state of the union.
A quick bit of browsing the Amazon Basics line of products would certainly lead one to assume they had totally knocked off the 3rd party products they thought they could without getting major brand pushback.
Checkout CockroachDB if you want to have the 'add a node' for additional storage option like MongoDB has. It's Postgres compliant, for the most part, and has a license that most of us can live with for the projects we build.
