There is a small sign in front of the facial scanner that says "Photo verification not required."

You can always say "I decline the photo verification", and they will check your license like back in the old days. This is what I have been doing for years now.

Completely agree. To me, HDR feels like the system is ignoring my screen brightness settings.

I set my screen brightness to a certain level for a reason. Please don’t just arbitrarily turn up the brightness!

There is no good way to disable HDR on photos for iPhone, either. Sure, you can turn off the HDR on photos on your iphone. But then, when you cast to a different display, the TV tries to display the photos in HDR, and it won’t look half as good.

Another vote for YNAB. It is expensive, but for me it pays for itself in a month.

It can be as open-ended or as detailed as you like. And the tutorials / videos are worth watching, as well.

ZCash is insecure by default. It is a honeypot for people who wish to use the default privacy settings of Monero.

On June 8, 2020, Chainalysis added support for Zcash to their Chainalysis Reactor and "Know Your Transaction" (KYT) technologies.[22] This permits Chainalysis to trace and provide transaction values and at least the sender or receiver address for over 99% of Zcash activity.[22] Chainalysis explains that it is able to accomplish this since most Zcash users do not use privacy-enhancing features.

I found this the other day as well. It actually only applies for certain browsers. I think they are doing the redirect via user-agent.

Orion Browser (by Kagi) can still access i.reddit.com.

This is the only way I will use mobile reddit. I don't need an app for something that can be a simple, clean web page.

I use the Magnet.app extension, which supports basic tiling commands on MacOS.

Thanks for reading and for sharing your experience. Much appreciated.

I'm not trying to spread propaganda. I'm doing my best to make sense of the different narratives being told by different parties. It's all we can do in these crazy times.

You have many good points. This article was not comprehensive and could have dug deeper into many reasons. I'll respond to one bit:

To say that pro-western and anti-Russia attitude in Ukraine was fabricated by the West is a bit of a stretch, to say the least.

I never used the word 'fabricated', and I don't think I said anything that robust. I said "funded", which is different. Ukraine is a large country, and there are plenty of different political opinions and movements to pick from when supplying funding.

That is true - it takes two to tango.

That said, far too much of the present discourse leaves out that in many different situations, the US has added fuel to the fire in Ukraine, instead of taking opportunities to lessen the chance of violent conflict.

most likely it will bring them all closer together.

You are right, in that this will most likely be the short-term action. NATO / EU will be more tightly bound to the US out of necessity. But necessity does not engender gratitude and goodwill - usually it precipitates resentment and struggle. That is why in the long term, I predict poor relations between NATO / EU.

Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.

Thanks for reading. Would love to hear specifics on which facts were false / one-sided propaganda.

My conclusions may or may not end up being true, but hopefully we share the same premises of the conflict.

Further, wage growth not matching production efficiencies or even decelerating is not a monetary policy issue (or anything to do with inflation) but a social policy issue. Specifically, minimum wage not tracking inflation, and in my opinion, a broad-based rejection of unions.

It can be both a monetary policy issue and a social policy issue.

Entities that are close to the money-creation spigot that is the Fed have a decreasing cost of money and debt. Anyone / thing further from the cheap supply of money have seen less benefit. The people working for minimum wage are very far from the cheap supply of money.

Social policy, as you point out, has not kept up with monetary policy. But the problem is initiated from monetary policy.

This looks really cool.

But my pet peeve is hidden pricing for paid products. If it's worth buying, then show the price up front. I can't easily view the price anywhere on the website, and it's not displayed on the App Store description either. I was ready to download the app and try it out if I could view this information up front

This is an interesting idea, but their conclusion could be a coincidence.

They might have inadvertently just been covering a standard slide into extremism from normal users, and the fact correction response might not have had an effect on the users.

Also, political facts / misinformation is very hard to judge accurately. For example, just a few months ago, Politifact was calling the "lab leak" hypothesis a "Pants on fire" falsehood. Now, it is being presented as a possibility. https://townhall.com/tipsheet/juliorosas/2021/05/20/politifa...

This study also appears to have had no control group. Odd.

We would be better off if we could remove those dishonest people from our communities here and elsewhere.

How do you distinguish between dishonesty and honesty? Who gets to determine that?

It sounds like you are attempting to block the people who blocked other people. It isn't a good cycle to get into.

Listening to arguments we disagree with is going to be incredibly valuable in the coming years. Not everyone is arguing bad-faith. There are some people who genuinely believe different things. Addressing those differences directly, through open discussion, will be much more productive than a procedure to "identify and eliminate".

Yesterday, there was a 140% short position on Gamestop.

Today, there is still a 122% short position on Gamestop. There are still many funds hedged against GME. Melvin might have had one of the larger positions, but there are many more funds with this position. Source: https://finviz.com/quote.ashx?t=GME

As you say, they would make money by running the orders, regardless if GME goes up or down. So - why would they stop? It is most likely that Citadel is still exposed to other funds holding short positions in GME.

I don't think this was Robinhood's choice.

Robinhood doesn't actually execute any trades. They sell user's trade orders to Citadel, a trade executor. Citadel then buys the shares on the market, and sells them to Robinhood for a slight markup. It's how Robinhood offers trades for $0 fees. You pay pennies more per share, but don't have to spend $5 per trade.

Citadel, and other trade executors, are refusing to buy shares for retail traders. Coincidentally, Citadel also bailed out Melvin fund for their short position in GME. So, Citadel has an interest in not letting the price go up any further. And citadel controls trade execution for dozens of firms.

This is definitely illegal. But Citadel is betting that the resulting SEC fines from this illegal manipulation will be less than the loss they would get if they didn't suppress the price.

The History of Western Philosophy, by Bertrand Russell, is a great starting point. It reviews probably 30 prominent philosophers from the Western world, starting with the ancient Greeks and coming to modern day.

It's not comprehensive, and Russell isn't focused on staying completely objective on each subject. But it's a great overview, and in my opinion the subjectivity from Russell adds a bit of personality that makes it easier to read.

You are correct that there is no fixed price. However, you might be assuming that the US Dollar has a fixed price too. The US Dollar is fixed at the price of the US Dollar, which is of course only a relative value.

Likewise, a Bitcoin is worth what a Bitcoin is worth.

The difference between the two, what the OP is pointing out above you, is that Bitcoin currency has a limited supply and so can't be devalued. Relative to each other, a Bitcoin will increase its value to the USD because the supply of the latter is always increasing.

* Fans randomly turn on with nothing running and `powermetrics` has the fan at 3200 RPM and cpu temp of ... 40C? I literally have to reboot to get them to turn off. I walked into my office one morning and apparently the fans had been running all night with no apps loaded and nothing using considerable power.

Are you plugging your power cable into the left side of your mac? I had the same issue, and plugging it into a right-sided port fixed it. It sounds like a joke, but it's real.
