"Agent" may have a widely enough agreed upon definition to be useful jargon now

I think it’s the opposite of messy tbh. It’s clear cut. You might not like it but that’s a separate discussion.

Re your colleague: I wouldn’t want to talk about it other than showing empathy for the person. At your workplace… outside of work you can talk whatever you want.

For me personally the line is crossed when you start making judgments.

Having an appointment with the embassy is not political. Saying the government shouldn’t force people to go to the embassy is.

I am not sure why, but many people (news / media outlets?) love end of world scenarios.

too often pessimists are treated as serious, critical thinkers, while optimists are dismissed as naive or foolish.

remember this guy Michael Burry who saw the 2008 housing crash coming, bet everything against it, and made a fortune?

but then he spent the next 15 years trying to pull off the exact same trick, lost a ton of money fighting a massive bull market, and finally had to shut down his hedge fund because lightning just wouldn't strike twice.

how I deal with this: focus on what you can control. reading news in general seems to be difficult. what can I personally do about all that? very little tbh.

Yes I can second that.

During that time I was working for a large Telco. I could see how Nokia operated. They did everything the telco asked for, they installed any bloatware just to keep their sales numbers high.

Apple in contrast would say: if you ever touch the user experience on our phone we will go to the other big Telco in your country. Guess who won.

This is a serious issue for young people I think.

I have seen outputs that look good but the actual content is bad. If you’re inexperienced in a field you can’t see it because AI makes anything look right.

I have gotten very good results with AI but you can’t take the first answer at face value. You need to be suspicious and challenging until you tweak out the right answer over time.

I think it’s a bit ignorant to lump Europe into one.

Europe has roughly 750 mn people. When you’re in the southern parts many homes actually do have AC.

We’re not stupid. Many new buildings have ACs. The northern parts just haven’t adapted to the increased temperatures at scale yet.
