I mean this in the nicest possible way, but you guys need to redo yr site - a lot of the design cues make it look like a one-man fringe project which (assuming that's not the case here) is unfortunate

edit: more specifically, it's not about making it look more expensive/complex/modern but moving away from the specific aesthetic it has right now

to be honest I wasn't even thinking as specifically as these suggestions - not that any clear solutions occur to me either. but they should, at the very least, recognize that there is a problem that needs to be addressed. I'd like to think there's a less fatalist & more morally empowered approach available besides "forget it, jake, it's anonymous". side note, it's good to see someone here considering the needs of poorer users

sickening, if unsurprising, that their only recommendation is to improve the public profile of hidden services rather than make any actual attempt to address abuse. would be nice to see them adopt something other than the Reddit-naïf position on the misuse of "free speech"/cryptography

the other aspect is that despite the whole reason for Lavabit's popularity in recent years being NSA stuff etc, their site freely admitted that they couldn't refuse to fulfil legal government data requests, but that users shouldn't be worried because that would only apply in the case of criminal behavior. which bizarrely, is the same justification many NSA-overreach supports use: "if you're not doing anything wrong, you've got nothing to worry about."...

also, I always found it slightly dishonest that the free tier they used to provide featured no special encryption, given that their stated reason for existence is to provide secure communication

it's a real shame Disrupt carries any weight. the awful hype is one thing, but the fact that it screws over genuinely promising companies due to its grotesquely corrupt nature is a real problem

one question - does this use the real Mac login screen or some less-secure alternative? a lot of similar apps I've seen used the latter which is a dealbreaker from a security POV, & it would be great if Knock differs in this respect

doesn't work for me - I've installed & opened Knock on both Mavericks & iOS7 & Bluetooth (which, to be fair, is through a Belkin USB stick) & the PC doesn't recognize the iPhone, simply telling me to install it from the App Store. I love th concept so would be grateful for a fix...

considering PayPal's ethically void approach to business there are few things I'd recommend to a startup less than having any sort of involvement w/ them

"naive wealth redistribution" seems to be a bit of a strawman to me. re: European tax rates, perhaps it would be more accurate to describe the Economist as supporting the current economic status quo. besides, while Europe does have a much stronger safety net, it's almost as unequal as the US - it's not like the well-off are any less hegemonic there.

hah! a reference to a popular aspect of geek culture! more of this, please.

the best summation of the Economist's editorial viewpoint is that it's aimed at rich businessmen, & consequently combines tacit support for economic inequality w/ choice morsels of liberalism - viz. healthcare & gun control - in order to differentiate itself from "unsophisticated" paleoconservatives

you might be interested in MetaSynth (http://www.uisoftware.com/MetaSynth/index.php) & Izotope's Iris (http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/iris/) which basically offer the converse of what you're doing here. fascinating from both a technical & a sound design point of view.

the former's what Aphex Twin used to insert his face into the Windowlicker"" spectrogram: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windowlicker#Background

edit: his face is actually in "[equation]"; "Windowlicker" has a spiral.

ah yes, because trying to be decent & inclusive to persecuted minorities is the comparable to supporting an obsolete browser - yr analogy is a perfect illustration of the grotesque intersection between the Valley & bigotry.

also, "the hypothetical case where gender matters" is a glorious illustration of straight privilege
