I think battery power drain is even not fast enough for phone companies to sustain the selling Model. My guess is sooner or later they realize the real control point is software updates and they forcefully shorten OS and specially OS security updates under a bullshit reason they still can get away with to get us all back in line of buying regular phone upgrades in fear of hacked internet banking.

All posts I read on VIM always compare to a barebone editor without proper refactoring plugins enabled it seems. Would love to see a proper comparison against state of the art refactoring and against a skilled user of those systems.

First one for instance with resharper plugin enabled or in any IntelliJ IDE: Ctrl R R, type new word. Bonus; replaces all instances of the variable and recognizes scope in the file so if you have two locals with the same name over two methods it would change only the one you want. You want all, multi-carrot expansion Ctrl D D until you hit what you want and replace. Multi Carret is so powerful, find a repeating pattern, can be anything and even if it occurs further down where you don’t want to change just stop hitting expansion. Sure, you can do the same with VIM but comparing VIM to modern refactoring plugins is way more fair.

Things like extract method, extract variable and replace all instances at once are also one keybind away.

That's the risk they take, indeed. Also the risk for anyone who migrates as chances are the alternative is not profitable either. In the end, to sustain the offering party needs to be profitable or at least break even.

People are there of all types, no matter their age.

My take is feeling offended is a choice. Personally, I just let it slide off and continue my life. Life's to short to get offended by these things. But we are different and that's fine.

But in this case the alternative is not MacOS or Ubuntu, but a distro nobody has ever heard of. Third-party app users may be the more die-hard/advanced user group - and the minority - but I wonder how many of them are willing to switch to a small distro which might not have the content or might have an even shittier app experience.

If there are no alternatives, which today there aren't to the best of my knowledge, my guess is Reddit will win this stalemate. Sure, people will leave but not nearly as many as the leaders of the strike would like to think. At least, not for long.

The point is for any that is like you my guess is there are 2 more like me. Or 20, or 200. Never checked how much people use 3rd party apps vs. total users.

Honest question, what is so bad about the Reddit app that you would give up browsing the content you like?

I experience little ads, and if I would be annoyed by it I would probably find ways to get rid of it (pi-hole style). I'm OK with how the app displays comments, I can fold them etc. Don't need much more.

That awkward moment you realize Reddit is in a better position to win this war because people like us just want to have a digital place to spend time, not fight a war.

Truth be told I don't care much about all of this, I just want my subs back or replaced so I can mindlessly scroll them. Wasn't using a third party app, but if I was I'd probably feel unhappy for a week before I simply switch and don't think back.

The real sad part is that I would hate to see Reddit go down. All my searches nowadays are with "site:reddit.com" as regular google results will just give you affiliate posts and sponsored top 10s. Reddit is my prime source of true reviews, opinions and content written for the content, not monetization.

Unfortunately, your time doesn't scale. Selling your own hours whilst also having to build and maintain a product and/or company is not a great idea. Hiring people to answer the questions is expensive as well. Things that get you a good chunk of money are based on being able to scale ridiculously well. Make once, sell many kind of things. People are not a good product to sell.

In addition, big corp knows the cost of an FTE and they will be translating your support offering back to FTE/hours, a unit they can put a price on. In turn, procurement will make your contract negotiation a living hell.

Better build and sell something they know they need but can only translate to how much value it will bring them / how much costs it will save at the bottom. Negotiating percentage(points) of a large sum of money is easier to sell than cash numbers that they translate to a human being being available to them.

Of course, if you really expect zero support is required and you can get many to sign it can still work out. It doesn't sound like a get rich quick scheme though.

What you describe is more job security. Physilogocal safety is about feeling safe to speak up without being punished or humiliated for speaking up on ideas, concerns, or mistakes (etc.). If nobody is communicating properly it may be an indication your company has many people that don't feel safe.

Kind of ironic to see dead links in a good documentation practices article.
