Is there something wrong on my end? The IN animates fully, which is a nice visual cue. The HOLD remains static which is nice. But the OUT does not completely animate and it throws me off.

I filter out people like that because

A. They’re not on the same level

B. I won’t hire them and I wouldn’t work with them

C. They serve no purpose to me in my life because I don’t even want to hang out with them

I’m an immigrant, and I think at least where I live in USA we need to stop immigration from any random place or of people who refuse to assimilate.

To tell you the truth I only ever see poor people (immigrants, mostly) that carry around like 3-4 kids in cities (I am in SF) while everyone else either has 1 or no kids.

They don’t speak English and I’m not sure if they will assimilate well. I already see street vendors, trash everywhere, and other 3rd world behavior in some parts of SF.

I’m an immigrant from 3rd world. It’s pretty sad to see here.

Well we have a lot of choice and it’s easier than ever to find people (internet).

People choose to fall in some doom loops or waste their time doing anything but making connections. That’s their problem.

For everyone else, there’s work, meetup/luma, discords, and so on to connect.

It’s not worth replying to some people bro.

The issue around self driving is more laws and regulations than it is a matter of tech.

There’s a reason these companies spend so much time effort and money on legal hurdles.

I didn't realize technology had to be 100% applicable to everything at 100% capability on day one.

I have a toolbelt as an engineer. These are tools.

When I need the right tool for the job and it’s not on my toolbelt, I add it by ramping up quickly and figuring it out. There are enough tools on the belt to craft this new tool.

You really do need to treat your friends as a revolving/evolving Rolodex.

Get rid of “friends”/people who hold you back. Their problems are not your problems. You have your own goal in life. They can deal with their own problems, and maturity is realizing it’s up to the individual to change.

Get friends in your life who add value to your life. These will be hard to find, but once you have such friends they are friends for life. These are people who are riding the same wave as you, who yearn for better waves. They love the sport of life.

I don’t talk to anyone I went to college with because I realized they’re not on the same wavelength. I’m not interested in cruising through life. They didn’t really add value to my life, and I didn’t want to be bored or annoyed. I’m talking nihilistic people who are ok with just status quo. Yuck!

The friends I’ve made since have improved my life. They’ve shown me how to really make the most out of life. Challenging myself to be better, and they’re smarter than me which is encouraging as well.

I have maybe a dozen close friends. I’m glad that I’m one of their close friends too.

Writing software is easy. It can be figured out, no matter how hard it seems.

They’re spending 10s of billions. Yes, just.

200 million to have dedicated top experts on hand is reasonable.

Why not just hire like 100 of the smartest people across domains and give them SOTA AI, to keep the AI as accurate as possible?

Each of those 100 can hire teams or colleagues to make their domain better, so there’s always human expertise keeping the model updated.

I also wear Levi’s.

To me they’re an iconic brand and will always be cool. Build quality wise it’s all right for the price, but I’ve also never really bought any other brands so I can’t compare.

For AI to be useful, it needs smart humans to progress its knowledge base.

An educators job (like an actual teacher) should be to help people (key) progress and be smarter humans.

Why are people so resistant to change lol just use the better stuff or migrate to it.

It’s software you are mostly using to build end user software. Gauge it by how well it works and serves the end user.

This is why AI is good. It will just force this SWE vintage to solve the problem at hand instead of over engineering or holding on to some traditionalist views of the language.

Why can't we keep our military and defense spending (read: R&D, science, etc.) top notch, and use it to fuel civilian quality of life?

I never understood why we have to remove one thing to do something else. Sometimes you just need a redirection right?

I mean sure, GPS was meant for missile guidance, but now we use it to go to our friends place for game night or taking the family on a road trip.

The internet wasn't made for memes, but here we are. And we play online games together too.

We spend like 1-2 trillion on medicaid and medicare.

My personal vision (which may differ obviously from others) is for America to be the best nation to ever exist, in terms of what it offers to its citizens, and to the broader community at large. And for me that includes the best military power (gotta keep the insane crazy countries and terry's in check), the best social quality of life (healthcare, housing, safety), and the best outcomes for everyone who is here (pursuit of happiness).

I find it fascinating that this country has gone through hell and back (civil war, civil rights, world wars, etc.) and held it together, and it is one of the primary reasons I admire the country so much even though it has its issues (which country doesn't?) and aspires for something greater.

For someone like me, Europe can be a very racist place and I know from first hand accounts from others like me how they're treated as an eternal outsider, not to mention their imperialist history and bloodshed... Where I'm from is a 3rd world developing country that was set back by invaders and imperialists for centuries.

America offers a balance that is really hard to find in the world, it is a true melting pot and I love it here.

You're right, I am being silly because I am too uneducated to really make sense of any of it.

I love smart people who work on this stuff, a lot of what I take for granted is due to their efforts :)
