Creating a dev bootcamp is not easy. I was there in almost the very beginning as a guest instructor. It's hard. Hack Reactor did a great job overall. It helped change the lives of many. The ROI is 200-300% over traditional CS degrees.

"My My Hack Reactor classmate Mike Adams' app Instahood is pretty cool. It shows recent Instagram photos from any location you choose. When you first open it, you see photos at your current location. Then you can look at pictures wherever else you want, either by clicking somewhere on the map or by searching for a place (with auto-complete!)

He used Meteor (web framework), the Google Maps API, and the Instagram API."

yes, it's meteor but you need to click on the map to update

Could you point what was his expectation culture wise and the company's situation? What exactly he didn't like except the wrong questions?

In the end it's important to leave on a good impression for future connections but probably those people (in your friends company) were arrogant immature kids in the first place and they don't care about good future connections anyways. In this case don't waste your time. Same for the interviewers - please let the people know early on and save their time instead of being "polite" and dragging them into meetings multiple people (usually with the same dumb questions) or even stretching interview process into multiple days!

Gifting service is very crowded place and yet there is no company that solved the problem successfully but there a plenty of "dead" companies tried to do gifting and social gifting.

This makes me sad. I have been self-taught PHP developer for 10+ years but after I "discovered" Ruby on Rails there is no going back.
