I have a 2022 Porsche 911. It has a lot of physical controls for things in the cabin like climate control, suspension settings, cruise control, dashboard view, and audio. The car also has an auto steer and cruise control option which will accelerate and brake for you while also keeping the car in the lane. It can go from a stop to whatever speed you set it to. It’s great for traffic on the highway. That’s not too shabby for a 2022 non EV car. Current model Mercedes have level 4 driving automation where you can take your eyes off the road. I don’t think Tesla even has this level of driving automation yet.

I’m a big fan of Amazon’s leadership principles. One of them is bias for action. I worked at AWS for a few years and I’d be in a meeting and someone would say bias for action and we’d all know what we needed to do.

I live in Texas. It takes about 8 hours drive to get out of Texas regardless of the direction I go. That's just one state. Texas is the only state that has 8 different climate zones.

I believe that the M1 architecture is such that you don't actually need as much RAM as an older model computer. It is a system on a chip so moving data between RAM and storage is so fast that it can swap between the two without much performance degradation.

I grew up in NY and lived in NYC and I still call it a plain slice.

As a person who also grew up in NY, the slice was part of my childhood. I'd walk home from middle school and then high school and pass the local pizzeria where I could pick up a slice, Italian ice, and play coin operated video games. Galaga, Donkey Kong, and Pacman. I miss those carefree days where the world was simpler and the pizza tasted better.

I asked a question on math.stackexchange 8 years ago and that question got really popular and now I'm in the top 34% ranking of folks on the Math site. I don't really know a lot about math but people really like the TREE(3) function.

I worked for AWS for a few years under Andy. He's a good pick for CEO of that company.

AWS usually does a post mortem where they inform what caused the problem and what they will do going forward to prevent it from happening again.

Your comment just made me buy it. I didn't realize it was an open device running linux. That sold me. There are probably some marketing lessons to be learned from these comments.

I have a friend who used to work for one of the bigger dating app services. He is an AI expert and wrote the matching algorithm for the service. He is very good at his job and his algorithm was so good that people matched, got married and stopped using the dating service. The higher ups in the company noticed the loss of revenue and asked him to make his algorithm worse so that people would match, date, but then break up and go back to their service. He proceeded to quit his job.

My doctor uses a sedative also to make sure you don't freak out during the treatment. I think most doctors do this. You need to factor that into the cost too.

This is great. I’ve dismissed my Jewish heritage and the teachings of religious texts, but this perspective gives me pause. Maybe I’ve been hasty in my assessment that religion doesn’t offer me anything for making a better future.

The Tesla requires you to keep your hand on the wheel while in auto-steer mode. You can take your hand off the wheel, but the car will beep loudly after a while and if you don’t put your hand back on the wheel, the car will pull over and stop. It then locks you out of auto-steer mode until you cycle the power on the car.

I also had no problem cancelling my account.

It would make sense for Apple to continue to use both AWS and Google Cloud so that it maintains its negotiating powers with both vendors.

I’ve got a Tesla model X and I’ve been in situations where the autopilot screwed up and required me to take over to prevent an accident. Most recently the car was autonomously changing lanes on a highway and didn’t see a guy on a motorcycle who was following too closely to the car in front of him. It’s probably an edge case, but still makes me weary of using it more.
