Its all about prioritizing. As much as the TSA may be a now, 30 minute inconvenience, there are so many more serious problems to solve. IMO it would be irresponsible of a candidate to position their political platform around improving the TSA which affects the avg american probably once or twice a year at most.

The effort to get my initial quote would require significantly less data - I'd see the results, like what I see (a.k.a. establish trust) and then it wouldn't be much more effort to get that SSN/DOB at that point.

why does it matter, the typical consumer wont care. The square design has been successful for them, why not piggyback on that success

First off, I don't understand where your rage is coming from. My point is that if you contribute to open source then your coding ability is clearly demonstrated in those projects. I'd rather spend my mental powers on coding something that others could use afterwards then a stupid code challenge that will just be rm -rf after the interviewer reviews it.

Thats a rather baseless statement. What would you know about my ability to code or not to code. On the other hand, your team's apparent anti-open-source position (based on above comment) seems to indicate they are not as awesome as you describe.

You mean people that are passionate enough about programming to voluntarily write code on evenings and weekend and share it for the broader community of developers for the sole purpose of being proud of something you create and sharing it so others can benefit? Honestly I don't care if you use github, bitbucket, codeplex, or your blog

I have so much open source to demonstrate my ability, I promise you I'll never use this site or complete any code exercise for an interview. If you don't want to look at my github profile, fine, I don't want to work at your company

I also happen to hire and if the candidate does not have an open source project I give them a meaningful challenge (add value to the community) and tell them to create a github acct and share a link to the repo. At least by the end of the process they have something to walk away with

There is an agreement between the user and their ISP, I for one have never made any agreement with KISSMetrics though I've used sites where they have tracked my information. Now I do make an agreement between a service like hulu when I use the site (Terms of Use) but the kicker here is (from their privacy policy):

You have choices about the collection and use of your information by third parties

But in fact because of KissMetrics shenanigans, the user did not have the choice which is probably why Hulu is in trouble. I suspect the other defendants have similar clauses that were not followed

For all startups in general, probably not much, for kiss clients? Probably a lot. If I used kiss the first thing I'd be doing is removing their service from my site

i personally believe kissmetrics had to fully know they had figured out a way to bypass privacy settings and thought themselves clever for it. Most likely they said the far too often: "It will only be a problem if we are successful and then, hey we are successful"

The more common case is a driver being angered by the slight inconvenience of slowing down. Which usually is because they are in fact the one driving over the speed limit and therefore driving dangerously according the law.

"In a free market, prices are determined by what buyers want" - sure for products but it is not entirely true when it comes to compensation. If janitors, in some united way, stopped cleaning our bathrooms for minimum wage then we would pay more. I'd say their service is "worth" more then we compensate them for, we are just collectively taking advantage of their position in life.
