This isn't accurate. You can certainly write iOS apps and distribute using the Enterprise distribution mechanism for a number of use cases.

Stop. Hacking. My. Mac. Make every shit feature like this explicitly opt in. FFS any decent Product Manager would know this is a ridiculous way of integration (mysterious and with no obvious control). I'm about ready to move my business somewhere else.

Office Integrations: Worthless for a huge swath of users who don't have Office. Also undesirable for a large group of users who have Office but have no use for the integration.

Other Integrations: Too vague to justify what is potentially a large security threat. You've really got to do better than that.

What's preventing Apple from reverting things on the backend to 'undo' the password change and allow the next authentication and backup attempt by the phone to work? The leap from the implied definition on Wikipedia to the authoritative "by definition" one sentence later is truly stunning, surpassed only by the sudden parachuting of bundles and bananas into the unsuspecting 3s and 5s.

We don't store credentials within the app. When you login, we just keep the (long lived) auth cookie provided by HN if login succeeded and reuse it in the future when posting.

I should have mentioned - The app has a Pro unlock, but TestFlight betas builds don't actually charge anything to you when you 'purchase' the unlock. We're also going to try and make sure out Beta testers get to keep the Pro unlock even when installing the App Store version
