joint families. In India those who have joint families – I live with siblings and parents in a multi-floor house with a floor for each sibling family. We party, visit temples and celebrate festivals/holidays together and don't need anyone else to join us. We also catch diseases together and help each other out during such times. It was conscious decision to remain together and not something we inheritted.

It's interesting to reflect upon who is "I" presented with these experiences. Brain might be hallucinating in a given moment due to infection or something. But the witness "I" is ever-intact experiencing come what may.

You can ask him to try yogic and ayurvedic methods. AN excerpt from The Wellness Sense book (author: OM Swami) [0]:

I've had patients successfully cure ulcers, cancers, migraines, obesity, hypertension, allergies, depression and many other ailments by following the principles I share with you in this book. I am not suggesting that Ayurveda is a panacea. No system of medicine is. But, when you combine the principles of Ayurveda with the yogic thought, you make a giant leap in your understanding of the human body and its wellbeing. In this book, I introduce you to a holistic system of health and wellness. My goal is not to give you herbal remedies, because once again I don't wish to treat the symptoms. Besides, I'm not a medical professional but a meditation specialist and a tantric practitioner. There are plenty of Ayurvedic doctors out there you can consult for medicine. Having said that, chances are, once you adopt the principles and practices I am sharing here, you will not need to see a doctor again. For a healthy and a long life, the ancient yogic thought offers you one of the most insightful, complete and scientific perspectives. I promise by the time you finish reading this book, you will look upon your body and your health in a new way. You will learn how to take care of it better, you will know how to lead a healthier life in our present world

treat him normally and let him explore the world with other senses. Such senses (especially hearing) in us develop with greater capability than others. Blindness isn't a difficult thing to live with in this age of high-tech, specially when one is blind from childhood, as one doesn't need to carry a baggage of emotions of suffering and has enough time to learn and build one's own path.

Make him also meet with fellow blind children and be part of the community once he's grown to a few years old. With them he'll experience the greatest ease.

Give him toys and tech with audio/haptic feedback and not necessarily ones which look extravagant in appearance.

Best of luck

Not exactly sure whether you meant it but here's the thing: energies rise up with meditation/pranayama. These give you sensations in different parts of the body most notably in your eyebrow/forehead/etc. Experiences like Hollow, digging, pricking, massaging etc.. I've not just experienced profound sensations, but I live with them. In every session I experience them daily. IN fact, I'm experiencing them right this moment while typing, in my forehead, a deep, hollow like sensation, as if some energies are digging some hole in the forehead. This is not painful or discomforting.

To me focus means to not move the eyes but to bring the attention in that area and be aware of the sensations there. For example, just bring your attention on your left foot big toe at this moment and suddenly you are now aware of your big toe which was not in your awareness otherwise. Just keep your awareness here and you're focusing on it.

This universe is an imagination of the cosmic mind behind which there is immutable conscious just like our dreams are imagination of our mind. Just like our dream, the universe is simulated inside the cosmic mind only.

At the subtlest level, we're one with that cosmic consciousness. Realization is experiencing that oneness (aham brahmasmi).

Just like in lucid dreams, we become aware that we're inside a dream and not a reality. upon awakening, one realizes the dream-like nature of this world. Then only, one becomes free from suffering which is caused by identification (attachment) to false (imagined) entities.

Only with experience the realization dawns and the mind is freed from its ignorance; intellectual understanding can neither brings such experience nor can break the ignorance of the mind.

At the core, we are pure awareness devoid of any object (thoughts). We can direct this awareness which we call the art of attention. We're pure awareness and we decide to attend something. However, to attend and receive information from the physical plane, we need appropriate instruments. Brains and its organs of senses are those instruments. If these instruments have fault, obviously we as awareness don't receive enough information and it seems our consciousness is reduced. In waking state, we receive info from physical senses. In dream state, these senses are in suspended mode but mind is active in imagining the experiences in a virtual world and hence awareness has an instrument. In deep sleep, even mind is in a state of rest and hence awareness has almost no active instrument. Still, we awareness does exist and thus we know that we had a good or bad sleep when we wake up.

For android I do the following things: 1. assign swipe with 4 fingers left and right to FirstItem and LastItem on screen, respectively, in talkback settings > customize gestures

  a. download labels and icons so unlabeled buttons with icons can be guessed and spoken

  b. in advance settings, choose typing preference as hold and double tap (any key). Also turn on "speak passwords"
2. set auto rrotate to off in notification window

3. turn on google assistant by tapping and holding the home key

  a. setup your voice by saying ok google and following the prompts to train on your voice
4. install google keyboard
  a. in its settings > preferences, turn on number row (show always)

  b. make sure suggestion strip is not off in text correction as it won't longer show voice input on the keyboard as well0

  c. make sure in emojis, stickers and gifs, the predictive suggestion content is off
5. install lookout app for object/text/currency/etc recognition
  a. download food labels/images caption/currency (for your country)
6. Place frequently used apps like Whatsapp/Phone/Messages/etc on the bottom favorites tray

Also must learn and practice gestures in the tutorial app.

Additionally, I keep screen lock turned off and instead use Secure Folder (Samsung) for critical apps like banking, though I wouldn't recommend this unless you are sure that you have no prying eyes around at all times.

Canada (or US) is no saint here. I think India is just learning these tactics from West. If you can't get the criminals and terrorist in front of your court because they operate from other countries which encourages such people and use them as a tool to interfere and destabilize your society, you are left with no option but to get rid of them using similar tactics.

I appreciate you recognizing the PPP to determine pricing. Definitely something that can convert me to buy a subscription. Here hoping the app is also accessible (for screen readers).

NO. we repeatedly deny what our neurons demand, E.G. lust, violence etc. Granted, we end up falling for these impulses many a times, but we also deny them many times. The former occurs more with those who identify themselves with their impulses (desires); as one evolves one's mind and intelligence, one is able to resist and have a much better control on these impulses. AI as it stands only represents human brain; the mind is much bigger than brain with multitude of functions and don't get me started on consciousness, which is the chief ruler of all and beyond mind, space and time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S57DSgRWBRM

I work lying down with a pillow acting as a desk for my keyboard (I don't have to look at the screen as I use screen reader software) so I guess I don't have to worry about it. It hurts my back sitting for long hours so I found lying down to be more comfortable working from home :)

Chakras are real so as Kundalini [0]. However, these aren't physical in nature, rather, they are on subtle body of consciousness. Now, that's not possible to prove scientifically yet, but with your dedicated regular practice, you can experience them yourself as this guy on HN did [1] which inspired me to start my own exploration (back in 2014) and have intense experiences which remains with me.

The Dance of Śiva 3 years ago

Secrets of Mahatandava extracted from [0]

Shiva plunged in deep dhyana on Kailasha while Devi watched him patiently with contentment. She had not known the feelings of lack, discontent or aggression. She did not miss the comforts of Chintamani griha. The snowy mountains or the icy cave meant nothing. Like the blowing wind is not careworn about its destination, like rain that falls cares not where it lands, Devi just existed in the present moment. Moment by moment, six hundred thousand years passed at the end of which, Shiva rose from his seat.

“The time has come, Varanane,” he spoke somberly. Devi saw a slight but momentary smile on Shiva’s pink lips. In his all-knowing long eyes, she saw a blinding flash and then utter darkness before they returned to being normal. His forehead showed a hue of soft red. The sun dimmed as if shrunk and in the middle of the day, it became twilight. For the first time, she experienced an unknown feeling in her heart. She could not express it but it was anxiety, a sort of paranoia. Of what, she knew not at this stage.

“I can’t explain, Nath,” she said, “but I’m feeling something I’ve never felt before.”

Without answering, Shiva held her in his yogi’s arms. Billions of new planets were birthed in that moment of embrace. Devi’s anxiety didn’t die down though.

“You are about to see what no one has ever seen before, O Devi,” he spoke solemnly. “And you’ll be the only one to see it every time, once every eleven trillion years that I do this. Till now, you’ve been my own creation. Now, you’ll merge in me. Bound by dharma, henceforth, you’ll be born separately and will have to win me back every time. Some elements will re-manifest and some new will form in the new creation. I’ll create the element of fire. You’ll need it to end your life in a future incarnation. Many worlds will need it for sustenance.”

Devi felt a churning in her stomach. She broke out in sweat. Her heart raced. She had never experienced or known any of these emotions ever before.

“What is happening, Lord?” she asked with trembling lips. It was fear she felt but she knew not what it was.

Shiva, the detached yogi, separated her from the embrace and touched Devi on her radiant forehead granting her divine vision to behold his real form. The Mahakala undid his damaru tied to the trident. In two giant strides, he stood far away from Devi, fifteen light years away. Devi felt as if Shiva was still close.

Dimi-dimi-dum-dum-tadik-dimi-dimi-tadik-dum-dum, he began playing his damaru at a slow tempo. With every strike, at a great distance, Devi would hear sounds of rumbling, roaring and loud explosions. These were not the gurgling skies, thunders or lightning, she knew. These explosions were crumbling planets like one kicks at a sand castle. Before any of the lifeforms could take shelter, the planets were shrinking and disappearing like bursting balloons.

Shiva’s body began to expand beyond proportions anyone could fathom. Countless planets went right into his growing form as he continued to grow. He became the Universal body. Trillions of planets settled on his body like pollen in a valley of flowers. Devi trembled. She had no knowledge that her tapasvin Shiva was not just Maharetas, the greatest seed, but the universe itself. The damaru was playing at a faster pace now. Many planets with all their life-forms, oceans, rivers and trees, were being sucked right into him. She saw her own planet along with her palace, nityas, yoginis and yakshinis merging into Shiva. One million human years passed and there was no end to Shiva’s vistara, expansion or his samhara, dissolution. Raising his right hand up in the air, vigorously playing damaru, he lifted his left leg.

Shiva, the Nataraja, was performing his cosmic dance, Mahatandava.

Devi found herself being pulled towards Shiva’s gigantic form. She was no more than the size of a grain of sand in front of the Mount Everest. Before she knew it, she merged right into Shiva. From Shiva’s body, she saw the dissolution of the entire universe that went on for four million years more. Shiva stayed in his form of Nataraja, the sovereign dancer, the universal body for ages. Over the next few million human years, countless planets released from his body like arrows from a bow. Transformed, new planets. Creation was taking place again. All this while, Devi lived in Shiva bearing witness to what all had transpired.

maheśvara-mahākalpa-mahātāṇḍava-sākṣiṇī Devi, Shiva’s own feminine and kinetic aspect was the only witness of mahatandava. For, sound is kinetic energy. Sound cannot be static. The vigorous play of damaru created many sounds that lay scattered in the universe for eons. Seventy million different sounds manifested that covered the entire spectrum of all mantras to be ever created.

At the end of the first cycle of dissolution, the new creation took sixteen billion years before the first lifeform appeared. At the end of nearly eleven trillion years from Shiva’s Mahatandava, earth was created in the universe. This was when Devi was born to Daksha Prajapati and Queen Prasuti and married Shiva, she remembered what all she had been through and how long she had waited. Born from the union of Daksha and Prasuti, made up of the five elements of earth, water, fire, air and ether, Devi was now well aware of suffering, sadness, sorrow and all the other emotions.

“O Virupaksha, the ruler of all energies,” Devi humbly addressed Shiva, recalling the time when all she knew was bliss in her abode, “when I lived in Chintamani griha, I did not know jealousy, envy or any of the negative emotions. I did not know what was suffering. But now I do, and it is very painful.”

Shiva kept his yogic gaze fixed and lowered it a bit more to indicate that Devi could continue talking, his gentle smile on his chiseled face as if carved by the perfect sculptor.

“I have you,” she continued. “I see you and I only feel bliss. But, what about the rest of the creation? I saw infinite planets shooting out of you and billions of such planets have lifeforms. Why do they have to go through suffering?”

“The various elements are in play, Gaure,” The Mahayogi spoke like clouds gathering in the sky. “There’s no suffering, only ignorance. What people call suffering is merely their perspective born out of ignorance.”

“It may well be, Nath, but it’s extremely painful. It makes everything feel worthless. It causes fear and anxiety. People don’t know they are ignorant. What can they do?” “They must remain connected to the source, the universal energy,” Shiva replied. “For, the source has all the wisdom anyone ever seeks.” “And, how can they do that?” “The easiest would be to pick any sound my damaru created. Everything in its current form originated from those sounds.”

We're already immortal, just that this body made up of ever-changing physical elements isn't.

We should also strive to reach to a state where we realize experientially our true nature of eternal, pure consciousness, and then we can manufacture whatever body we would need just like our mind manufacture new worlds, objects and different bodies for us in dreams during sleep.

important and amazing research.

The Subak system demonstrates the Vedic way [0] of life in which the divinity (pure consciousness) is seen in everything – mountains, lakes, rivers, plants, animals – in all species. Temples and regional deities bind together and nourishes the whole ecosystem, preserving the environment and wildlife.

Unfortunately, as evident in the article, blindfolded by the supremacy of material science, the modern society has mostly destroyed this ecosystem without understanding its benefits, and it now wants to prevent climate catastrophe by carbon credits and other commercially driven policies rather than learning the natural and inclusive (spiritual) ways of the olden times.

One can claim one's product possessing/powered by AI. It doesn't mean that one is building the AI algorithm oneself. Just like one can claim to provide infinite scalability, uptime and redundancy, leveraging some public cloud infrastructure.

Once OpenAI and similar AI infra become firmly established like public clouds, products built on top of them will find it more attractive and compulsive to mention that their service is powered by so and so AI, and not some in-house random AI.

It's all marketing tactics IMO.

A sublime experience extracted from [0] by a monk, living for 100 days in complete solitude doing sadhana (meditative practice) in a makeshift hut on icy Himalayan mountain/forest (2011), attaining realization during this final phase of his sadhana:

I had to learn how to absorb the powerful energies flowing through me. Thus, I decided to enter strict solitude for a hundred days. I needed this time to absorb the vision.

I informed Pradeep about my plan and his meticulous management made it possible. I changed my routine and began meditating from 7 p.m. until 4 a.m. If, once or twice a month, the villagers passed this way for hay, Pradeep would tell them to keep absolutely quiet. They maintained both distance and silence. During this period, I neither met nor saw anyone. Pradeep would wake up at 1 a.m., take a bath, say his prayers and prepare my meal before 4 a.m. He would come to the little temple near my hut, ring a bell and hide behind the temple wall so that we did not see each other. I would then step out and go to his hut for my meal. Eating would take me nearly an hour because it was nothing short of a ritual for me. It was an opportunity to express my gratitude to Mother Nature, to the farmers who produced the grain and to Pradeep who cooked it. The digestive fire in the stomach is called vaishvanara. I would offer every bite to this fire, akin to the fire offering in a yajna. I still do, for that matter.

While I was gone, Pradeep would wait for me quietly or refill the water bucket in my hut. He’d also fix the tarpaulin on the roof in case a storm had blown it about at night. If I needed to communicate something, I wrote a note and left it in his hut.

Towards the end of March, I felt a shooting pain near my kidney. I was startled because I had already perfected my posture and wasn’t expecting any more pains. I’d already been through excruciating knee pains, severe backaches, a tired body and aching arms and shoulders. What was this new pain? The middle plank of my bed had completely sunk, making it an uneven and unsuitable surface to sit on; perhaps my posture was the cause of the pain. I placed my pillow on the plank but this didn’t help. I took an hour out of my sleep time and did some yoga asanas to stretch my body; this alleviated the pain just a little. It was becoming impossible for me to sit still for hours at a time, which is what I needed to do. I wasn’t going to give up on my 150-day meditation though; I had to get rid of this pain. Reflecting on the pain, it occurred to me that I hadn’t seen the sun for nearly two-and- a-half months. I took my morning meals when it was still dark. I used to step out occasionally during the day, but I hadn’t been out at all in the sunlight for nearly ten weeks now. I had been living in an extremely cold hut and didn’t use a fire to warm myself. The next day, instead of yoga, I spread a mat and sat outside with my back towards the sun. That night the pain subsided to a large extent. I repeated the process for the next few days and the pain disappeared. I would never know what really caused it, but sitting in the sun relieved it.

Enjoying the sweetness of solitude, diving deep into the ocean of a still mind, I passed my days in deep meditation and crystal-clear awareness. I was acutely aware of everything around me: the sounds of hornets and wasps, a spider crawling on the wall, every drop of rain that fell. Any thought that emerged in my mind would not go unnoticed. This was truly an extraordinary level of awareness. My intuitive faculties entered a new dimension. No matter what question I thought of, an inner voice gave me the answer. One day, during meditation, the same inner voice instructed me to visit Kamakhya temple. I would get sarvoch tantric diksha, the highest tantric initiation there, it said. I was reminded of Bhairavi Ma who had foretold this in Badrinath. I decided to visit Kamakhya after the completion of my sadhana. But, right now, I simply lived in the present moment. I was the a boat sailing in an ocean of bliss; actually, I was the ocean of bliss itself.

The silence within me was beyond description. Just as you churn milk and it turns into butter, and that butter can never become milk again, my mind had reached an irreversible state of peace and joy. I felt that to remain unaffected, no matter what the circumstances, to be unmoved by someone’s birth, death, acceptance, rejection, praise or criticism—this sense of dispassion and detachment was arising from within me, without any effort. I opened my notepad and scribbled in it: ‘Self-realization is not an instantaneous act. We may have an aha moment but it is mindfulness that allows us to navigate the world with the utmost awareness of our verbal, mental and physical actions. It is one thing to grasp that we are not just the body, but it is another thing altogether not to react when someone hurts us. We may recognize that anger destroys our peace of mind, but to remain calm, no matter how strong the provocation—that is real realization. Why did it take the Buddha six years to achieve liberation? If it was an instantaneous thing, he could have had it in the first month. It took Mahavira ten years and Ramakrishna Paramahamsa twelve years. The experiences, lessons, insights add up, finally bringing one to the point of realization. Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius but it takes a little while to get to that temperature. The flame that heats the water already holds the potential to burn as powerfully as the sun, but it is the water that needs to come to a boil. The soul or consciousness is ever pure; it is the conscious mind that needs to reach boiling point, while the subconscious has to imbibe the insights and the learning.

Having done 8+ years of regular meditation, after getting inspired partly by an HN post [0], I can say with certainty that we're more than the body. I live with constant sensations, which are profound when I meditate. Building up from the bottom of the spine, where the kundalini is said to be sleeping in yogic scriptures for most folks.

As it stands, GPT seems to make expert devs even more powerful. But yes, it can't replace them for now.

The best thing I find as a developer that it unblocks the resistance we have in starting up with something new. For instance, I just built my first Chrome extension [0] to make video players more accessible on webpages with keyboard shortcuts.

I had built a desktop app on similar lines long ago, but could never push myself to built an extension. Last night I gave my requirements to GPT and it guided me through the whole process – from creating manifests and js files needed, to the JS code (granted that I'd to fix/extend the code) and even how to install/enable the extension.

Within few hours I have my working extension without needing to go and read any extension docs.
