I hereby declare this to be the future! We made it folks. Time to pack it up. See you in a 2002 LAN party.

This actually messed with my head. I now see the comments misaligned on HN.
When I first read this I was surprised by how seriously you took your measurements of food and loled. Your example on the end makes sense though. Interesting for certain.
The equivalent in the US is Vint Hill Farms, Virginia. Cold War CIA base used as a listening post primarily, but also to test things like fire suppression and rumored to be a home of Agent Orange. It was an EPA Superfund site (aka so horribly polluted that they needed to do something about it) decided to do nothing and then build a ton of home on and around the heavily contaminated area. I don’t have data but anecdotally cancers here are insanely high in prevalence.
This is a great outcome no?
Haven’t we been here before? It seems like it’s very similar to the branch prediction exploits of the late 2010s. Is there something particularly novel about this class of exploits?
I don’t think it’s about being equal. To think about it selfishly, then we would have nothing to gain from it. Friendship, like many relationships, is about the unique equilibrium struck that makes you both feel and be better, more than if you had just been an individual. It’s about strengthening each others weaknesses. Rising tide lifts all boats
What are you doing with the membership that is making it so sticky to not move elsewhere?
I’d like to call it a stumble :)
The role of a teacher has been flipped on its head now that everyone can have a teacher in their pocket. Teachers have the advantage of expressing the human part of education: finding the fun, meaning and enthusiasm over the learned history of humanity.
Isn’t that what the DMV is in the US?
I want to say that it’s not a linear relationship between hardness and cognitive function. There’s something about putting effort into biting something and it “giving” that, to me, makes this super satisfying and kinda puts me into a flow in a way. The tactical feedback is important. Maybe I’m just weird. :)
Like any terminal disease, when you hear someone in your periphery become seriously ill, you think about them, say some kind and comforting words and if religious, pray in their way for their recovery.
When you or a loved one get the bombshell news, the world flips upside down. Things you thought were important and had real impact on your life start to seem like small potatoes. It’s surreal and hard to comprehend just how abberative bad news changes your world view.
Maybe this is an obtuse question but what brought you to HN as a non-dev?
This post was hidden by mods I think - not on front page
Why not have some sort of VCS provider do something similar to Medium/Substack/etc. where access is generally free but frequently prompts you to subscribe/donate before access?
The concept of being able to simulate 42 years of “experience” in one hour seems so foreign to me. Something about it creeps me out.
This looks cool but intimidating - is this something that is accessible to beginners?
I was going to post that link but the paywall was in the way
75 days? Can’t any state AG now sue the US govt for dereliction of duty r.e the original law banning TikTok?
I am deeply surprised by the reviews on this.
This is an irate response to a perfectly fine comment. What about AI on HN is ruffling your feathers?
Is this related to Verizon going down recently?
Sorry to hear that! I hope your sleep quality improves. :)
What kind of edge does such intel give? Their work (bitcoin) spawned thousands and thousands of people who have taken the foundational technology and made many improvements to it. It seems like trying to figure out who they are incentivizes hobbyists to figure it out rather than state sponsors.
So I’m more junior so I don’t understand why this letter is controversial. Is it not important to meet your business goals in a crunch and address systemic issues in some sort of post mortem or retro? I do understand that there exists “management debt” for intra team issues, similar to technical debt, but I don’t see how it’s problematic to ask to prioritize finishing a project that’s been signed and on for and deal with the issues later, especially with the state of the business at that time.
I’ve always thought about what student examinations mean post-AI accessibility. We’ve faced a similar problem once students had open access to the internet, but even then there was some work in figuring out what sites are reputable, search queries, etc. Now that burden has been shortened to figuring out what AI tool and what prompt to use for classic exams like essays or tests. Add in the challenge of remote learning and now you have an environment out of your control, not to mention smartphone access prevalently available.
It’s difficult to be an effective teacher, and that’s without even considering the social and economic pressures they face.
Insightful!
Very cool! Are there other vaccines that have been formulated for mucosal ingestion? What makes that delivery method so effective?
Nice! I’m not seeing an implementation for actually completing the long list of things I have to do though. Perhaps that can be added in a future update? :-)
