I feel the App Store is one thing differentiating Apple from Android phone manufacturers.
Money from the App Store gets reinvested in the entire iPhone supply chain. Whereas in the case of Android, App Store money goes to Google only.
It also encourages Apple to support their phones long term as its preferred that you stay on your aging iPhone and keep spending at the App Store then risking you leaving the Apple ecosystem because Apple allows their older phones to become obsolete. Android manufacturers on the other hand have every incentive to obsolete your phone ASAP because you buying a new phone is the only way they make money.
If you resort to violence so will they to protect their property.

I know nothing about economics but I wonder if it’s time to ease up on the interest rates. Inflation might not be due to too much money in the system but rather supply simply drying up as China economy circles the drain. Maybe it’s a good idea to let money be cheap again so people could quickly set up alternative non-China suppliers to relieve the supply pressure. But then again I know anything about economics so add salt as required.
This line of thought leads people to naturally adopt the exact same sort optimization (exploitation) strategies businesses (your employer) does with the same justifications they use.

I made the jump from Android fairly early on when I realized that phones are terrible general purpose computers and that I mostly just use it as a phone - i.e. use almost exclusively the restricted subset of features that’s typical of smartphones. I lose nothing moving to the iPhone and gain a better UX (no crap installed by carriers or anyone else for the matter) and get better post sales care (long term updates and quick security patches).
China rhetoric is very concerning. As the old saying goes, when people tell you who they are, believe them.

Actually from what I heard, their failures with their Intel 7 was partly due to trying too many unproven technologies - i.e. they pulled a Zumwalt. With their current Intel 4 & 3 I heard they were more conservative.
The billions Biden threw their way isn’t really that much when their fabs cost billions to build. Don’t think the grants cover the full cost of their new fabs - it was 50 billion total right divided among all the corporations including TSMC, IIRC.
I still don’t get it. The fact that women prefer men of similar age or older … there are plenty of young men of similar age for young women, in fact it’s nearly one to one, then you add in the older men. For young women their suitors outnumber them.
Seems to be young men and elder women will always have a shortage of suitors no matter the population ratio between young and older people. It’s just that the shortage worsens for young men if the ratio leans towards more older people and the shortage worsens for older women when the ratio leans towards more young people.
The reverse problem of fertility vs sex difference in age preference exists in some African countries, where the fertility rate is very high. Which means there are more young people, which means some fraction of young women will not find a partner.
Maybe I’m dumb. I don’t understand how young women will have trouble finding a partner.

Do you own an iPhone? I suspect that the vast majority of people complaining about Apple's "lock down" are people who don't even use an iPhone.
If you do own an iPhone ... why the heck did you buy one knowing its limitations. It's like buying a pink shirt when you hate pink, despite the availability of shirts of other colors, then going to the manufacturer to complain about the color.
So for example, if you had a dominant market position for a particular category of phone operating systems, and you wanted to advance your interest in the market for app distribution...
Except the App Store was added to the iPhone before it reached its current level of ubiquity.
I believe Apple views the App Store as a feature of the iPhone that contributes to its value - the huge variety of apps available definitely contributed to the iPhone’s success; see the Windows phone for an example of a phone without a good App Store.
