i've low-key been running claude in dangerously skip permissions mode for at least like 4 months now and have yet to be bitten by a truly destructive action. YMMV but i think as long as you're guiding/prompting correctly, and don't just allow write access to your prod account DBs willy nilly, it's mostly fine. just keep an eye on it :shrug:

I'm all for being more healthy but at the same time I think a lot of people are failing to talk about the fact that this current generation (younger than millennials let's say) seems to be not drinking at all. While that might be healthier by the book, one thing it certainly decreases is time with friends and potentially time to network with others or make connections you might not otherwise.

If one to two drinks per week, or a glass of wine with dinner with friends increases your overall happiness because you had healthy relationships, or because you met somebody who opened up some other opportunity for you, that probably is an overall net positive compared to not drinking and thus perhaps not going out.

Inb4 "you shouldn't need to drink to have good friendships" yeah okay but sometimes it can just be fun to loosen up a bit and have a good time with your friends and i don't think looking back on my 20s i'd trade my fun nights out for the alternative (staying in and likely grinding CS. counterstrike, not even computer science). YMMV.

Idk if they're open source, but netlify was the company that I thought sort of made this feature free and easy to use. Github pages is also a free alternative.

Worth noting that the WR was from a Chinese swimmer and there's a current controversy around whether or not a large contingent of swimmers from the Chinese team violated anti-doping rules after a banned substance was found in their test results several months prior.

Reports are self-policed because it would spread the IoC or other international bodies too thin (ahem... convenient), and the Chinese reporting body "Chinada" dismissed it after saying "trace amounts were found in the kitchen where the athletes were staying at a meet".

I attempted to track down the report to see if the 100m world record breaker was amongst those who tested positive, but wasn't able to find it posted online anywhere. So he may have NOT been incriminated there, or may have been, can't say either way.

I want to celebrate the increased emphasis on swimming internationally as a former college swimmer, but it's also hard to ignore some of the clouds of controversy that have formed surrounding Chinese athletes. I understand the Olympics are a focus point for the country, and again as a former D1 swimmer I can empathize with wanting to do well, but at the same time I hope they're not crossing any lines in effort to win, as that defeats the spirit of competition.

Also worth noting that Phelps and Alison Schmitt testified before Congress and spoke about the intrusive frequency and nature of how often they were drug tested.

I haven't used it yet but we utilize instacart in our household, I'll be very eager to see if I can feed it a few URLs for recipes i'd like to cook in the week, intelligently collect and organize the ingredients (and their proper amounts) needed, add it to an instacart account order where I approve the final list, and order.

It would save me a pretty manual repetitive task I do most weeks at least once or twice. If I can now basically just focus on the planning of meals by selecting recipes, that will feel like a real time saver that I can now do other things with.

I've got a music library with timestamps for created dates being >12 years ago (2011) but some of the files likely date back to ~2002 or 2003 when I was pirating stuff with Napster on my dad's PC and have been transferred from filesystem to backups back to filesystems... so on and so on, from grade/middle/high school to college and now adult life.

At some point keeping your files and directories organized becomes a part of your workflow (can likely be automated after an initial hump of tagging songs correctly), such that you can move between music applications with minimal work.

I've settled on still using MediaMonkey (now on version 5) locally on my windows machine, that has its local Music folder stored in dropbox. I then have a linux server in my basement that does an `rclone sync` job nightly going from dropbox to the server's local filesystem on pair of HDDs in a ZFS mirror pool. The server then runs plex locally, which I can access on just about any type of client with the PlexAmp app. There some valid reasons to not like plex, but one thing it does well is it doesn't modify the metadata of your files themselves, and you can set it to prefer the file metadata over its autofetched metadata for your albums.

Essentially if you keep your files and dirs cleanly organized from the get-go, it's pretty easy to then go try out other apps/services (free or OSS) that fit your needs. Some purists will tell you to use Foobar2K or Winamp, which I believe are still viable options. But that said, I think just ensuring your files stand the test of time will be more important than your application of choice you use to consume them.

We switched from Geico recently to a new insurance carrier as well because of how expensive our new rate was going to be.

Likely time to go check on a comparison site for a better rate. Sometimes Geico can try to match that if you have a new quote at a lower price, or you can just switch.

I'd love to be working/owning a bakery/coffeeshop/bookstore. Then I remember my salary as a level of my effort and what it affords me and my family and how much time I can spend with me kids.

And then I also remember that anything I like to do for fun now that I'd decide to turn into a job would likely become NOT fun as soon as it's a job.

Not for me but I want to applaud you all for having a junior position open. Too often companies only want seniors with little desire to invest in growth of junior engineers. We have to let new engineers get experience too!
