I agree. I don't like the idea of Android being locked down, but the conversations around this topic are tipping into disingenuous.

Your phone is still yours, you can still install third party apps, and you can still develop apps without a verification. But now there's a one-off hurdle to install them.

Not ideal, but when we think of the people that it's trying to protect, this feels like a reasonable middle ground.

Our strategy is to squash on merge and ensure the JIRA ticket reference is in the MR title. You have the granularity of the feature which is going to help guide you on the intention. It's also much easier to enforce. People like to write and commit code in their own way.

Deleting the trunk every two weeks physically hurts to read.

I'm always surprised by how popular SVN still is though. I ported my old Sublime SVN plugin to VS Code years ago for fun, and I still get issues raised today (usually in Chinese, so it seems popular there). If you look at the VS Code marketplace, the top SVN extension has ~1.3m installs.

Bit of a tangent, but it probably wasn't a good idea to release an extension for something I had stopped using long before, particularly when you have to maintain it!

Mine are usually pretty bad. If I ever do see one that I like I catch myself flicking through way too many of them afterwards and I hate that. So I prefer to hide them entirely.

I'm in the same boat. I think part of that is Proton is spread across a huge suite of products and features, whereas Fastmail is specialised in one.

Hey HN, I did a little experiment over the weekend. I thought I'd share the thoughts and feelings that I took from the process

I think it depends on what you consider structurally sound. I built https://skipthestamp.co.uk/ this weekend. Not only did I not write any code, I did it all from my phone! I'm in the middle of writing a blog post about the process.

This is obviously a _very_ simple website, but in my opinion there's no argument that agentic coding works.

You're in control of the sandbox. If you don't set any rules or guidelines to follow, the LLM will produce code you're not happy with.

As with anything, it's process. If you're building a feature and it has lots of bugs, there's been a misstep. More testing required before moving onto feature 2.

What makes you say "unreviewed code"? Isn't that your job now you're no longer writing it?

Interesting! I'm probably not the target audience for this, but $50 per year for an unsubscribing service seems quite ambitious. Especially as it's unlikely someone is unsubscribing from 10 services every month!

Have you considered other pricing models? Maybe buying credits, or them rolling over?

I've found Cursor to be frustratingly bad recently. I agree with the UX and the over-eager autocompletions. The UI seems to change with every update too. I've had my own problems as well. I can't select any models, being forced to use "auto" permanently. I assume I've used any allowances in my plan, but the app doesn't give any feedback. Chats just fail to start.

Whatever auto is using is spitting out pure gibberish about 30% of the time. What was mostly a huge productivity boost can other times be a massive time sink.

I'm going to give antigravity a go for a while, I've found Gemini to be pretty good in the past.

Unfortunately we took the simple option and reverted back to Google. I was lucky that my wife even went along with my plan to migrate everything in the first place!

I'm considering self-hosting Immich to replace photos, but not sure when I'll tackle that and don't fancy having to use Tailscale all the time. No idea about a Drive replacement as yet!

I really tried migrating to Proton, but unfortunately I found their suite not really fit for purpose and I had to request a refund.

- No search in Mail. You can use Bridge to pull your emails into something else, but this means it's no longer secure, and not really feasible for a non-techy partner!

- No search in Drive

- 3 domain limit for Mail(???)

- Drive sucks. No previewing files, viewing photos etc. due to missing docs suite

- No proper shared folders in Drive

- Pass is woeful at autocomplete

- Pass Aliases are independent of logins, so you end up with double entries for everything

- You can't sync the calendar with native apps, and the calendar doesn't show birthdays

- No contact sync

- Pass doesn't support SSH

- VPN lets you split tunnel by app on PC, app AND IP on Android, IP on the chrome extension. Some let you include, others exlcude. How hard is it to just allow exclude/include for hostnames?

There's tonnes more that I'm missing that I can't think of from the top of my head, but it seems like Proton have stretched themselves very thinly. What I would consider a lot of basic features are missing. One look at their UserVoice community shows a lot of frustration

I think it's probably best to pay for individual services that focus on one area. I ended up with Fastmail, 1Password, and Windscribe for example.
