I have a couple of thoughts on this blog post.

#1. This blog post says that this product is launching in closed beta for "eligible Enterprise customers" only? But I thought cloudflare was moving away from enterprise gated features?

Long ago "Cloudflare Spectrum" launched which is exact that feature but was for some reason priced obscenely and limited to enterprise only. Later "Cloudflare/Argo Tunnel" launched and it seems perfectly positioned to take over CF Spectrum's job but instead was, I think, intentionally limited to not allow tunneling UDP traffic as to not cannibalize Spectrum.

Def sounds like a bubble to me. In my own bubble, ChatGTP is so well known over the others that people will often slip and refer to other AI services collectively as ChatGTP.

e.g. "I put it in chatgtp and..." when they actual asked Gemini.

Well to be fair they only kind of quasi-exist for consumers right now. As far as I can tell Crucial was providing the only consumer accessible lpcamm2 modules on the market right now.

Crucial is certainly the only option that comes up looking on amazon or newegg right now. Lenovo has some OEM modules but they are obviously marketed as replacement parts to just their laptops, not sure how the warranty and support for them would be outside a lenovo product.

But the Crucial brand was unceremoniously sacrificed by Micron to the AI gods at the beginning of this year. So will these lpcamm2 modules even be available once current stock runs out? The 64gb module is already sitting at $1000 on newegg.

Samsung is making lpcamm2 modules but no telling when those will actually hit the market and be accessible.

And actually typing that all out just unlocked a bunch of memories about how many times I've been:

    1. On a screen share support call with a mac user
    2. Asked them to pull up a webpage
    3. They pull up a super tiny ass browser window to the point I can't really see anything
    4. I ask them to full screen the browser so we can actually read shit
    5. The mac user just straight up panics or acts like like I've spoken an alien language to them.

Then I have to go google it and remember that CMD+comma(⌘+,) exists and reveal it to the mac user like it's actual black magic. And then I immediately forget about it until 6 months later when I need to support a mac user again and I repeat the whole cycle again.

Maybe this explains some of the bizarre questions I've gotten from mac designers.

The other day I was explaining to one that their designs fixed width looks silly once it got up towards 4k resolutions. But the designers main concern was if people actually used full screen browsers on 4k monitors and if there was any point in thinking about the design at that resolution.

There are plenty of times I enjoy have 2 browsers side by side of even 4 browsers in a square, and being able to do that is one of the benefits of having a 4k monitor. But without a doubt the majority of my time is spent with a full size browser window open, and I observe the same from all the other windows/linux users I manage that use a 4k monitor.

In service of keeping this post simple, I've ignore system display/ui scaling. But still... the question/assumption from the mac designer completely blew my mind.

I've not much to say on the thermal printer part of this but the extensions they did to markdown are great. They had me double taking for a few seconds thinking they might be real markdown because they make so much sense.

Its not slow like the on-prem. Jira cloud version is fine.

Seems like opposite land to me. Back in the day running Jira Server was the only way to get a snappy Jira instance. When they discontinued Jira Server to force everyone to the cloud it was god awful slow and forced us to abandon not just Jira but our entire Atlassisn stack.

This is closely on my mind because my steamdecks usb-c has started to break/wiggle and only charges now(No video out).

I figured surely the usb-c connector is on a small daughter board that would be easy to replace, but actually it seems directly soldiered to the mainboard and I don't have the tools/skills to do that type of repair myself. T_T

I hope a future version of the steamdeck can use something like this compression mount usb-c connector that would be easy to replace even when it's directly on a mainboard. Also they should drop the 2x usb-c unit in there to boot, a full computer like the steamdeck being stuck with a single usb-c connector is just criminal.

I've always loved Reese's since I was a kid. When I moved to another country a decade ago I went looking for Reese's to fill my home sick cravings but they all tasted like trash and I convinced myself they must be old/stale.

Come to discover in some recent trips back to the states that the problem was actually Reese's themselves, they all taste like stale garbage now.

Yeah normally the CF blog ranks as one of the best in the world in my book, so a post of lower quality and potentially AI slop really stands out here.

That said I think the concept of a full matrix server running all on CF infrastructure/services is an awesome blog post from CF.

Honestly I wish CF would simply unpublish/retract this blog post, put another engineer on it to help the PM, and spend another couple of weeks polishing the post/code to republish the same blog post.

I don't have any comments on their supposed slant, but I do know electrek.co articles often contain mistakes or inaccuracies.

When I comment on the articles or email their authors/editors about the inaccuracies they never respond, nor fix the article.

So yeah... Take anything on electrek.co with a grain of salt.

I love and use mullvad myself but I don't think they are very competitive for the average person. They mostly just care about getting around geo blocks on websites and streaming services, which mullvad puts 0 effort into facilitating.

If there is one old format that actually should have a revival, it's minidisk. I was really holding out for their production keep on until that revival came but they gave up the ghost this year.

Did you get the UI scaling in PS CS2 working?

I wasn't able to so it's unusable for me on 4k or 1440p.

I can find a dozen solutions to sign a PDF on linux without much trouble. Now redacting seems a whole nother story.

I've failed to find even a single option on linux that does real PDF redaction like adobe acrobat. Most don't do redaction at all or worse they say they redact but it's actually just black highlighter on black text or some other kind of overlay that leaves the underlying text data intact.

It sounds good in theory but signal updates are beyond excessive, sometimes multiple times a day but almost certainly every few days.

Most of the time there is zero explanation for the update. They are just training their users to auto accept updates with no thought about why, which in itself is a security risk.

If signal really is pushing these updates for "security" then it must be one of the most insecure apps ever built. I legitimately can't think of another app or program that updates more frequently... Maybe youtube-dl?

Last I looked a couple of years ago, GitHub 2fa has a lot of shoddy gotchas actually. There are a handful of GH issues on it with tons of comments.

For example it was impossible to remove/delete a phone number 2fa, even if you registered multiple other 2fa sources like security keys.

From my perspective your take and actions in this thread is itself completely devoid of empathy.

The reason for colorful language breaking through professionalism is because there is real human emotion behind those words. Real pain and suffering, lost time in the life that will never be regained, an ever widening bald spot from the stress. That type of thing yearns to be expressed in a way that generic corpo speak is by design unable to communicate.

Your response to these emotions is to simply stick your head in the sand(aka refuse to read the blog post)? Worse yet, even without that context, you are here trying to convince those around you to also stick their heads in the sand?

To dream up scenarios where theoretical someones in a giant faceless corp might maybe possibly be offended? Instead of trying to listen and understand the person already in front of you who has actually been offended?

We went the route inspired by gamingonlinux.com

So anywhere there is a YouTube embed we instead display a static thumbnail with 2 inline buttons underneath. 1 button to accept cookies and then load the embed and 1 button to view the video directly on YouTube in a new tab.

It works nicely and also pushed us to switch most of our videos to being first party hosted instead of YouTube.

I think it's ridiculous to say GDPR did "jack shit". I now have the ability to withdraw consent for tracking/marketing cookies on every major companies website I visit. An option that was near non-existent before GDPR.

Every apple user I've seen on meetings using airpods for their mic sounded terrible as well.

I don't think any ear pod style mic exists that isn't completely outclassed by a mic I could pickup 2 decades ago at Walmart for $10-$20.

I run exclusively Firefox over known mullvad VPN endpoints and I never have any issues with cloudflare or its captcha.

You should see the sideways looks I get from people when they find out I backup all our gmail to another service and don't allow employees to use Google SSO logins for sites. Just encase googles 'fraud' bots randomly shut down our workspace. I don't want the entire business to ground to a halt because we can't login to any sites.

When I'm in my car the dash reads on the hills here between 12° all the way up to 16° on the switchback into the valley. The new market is up a 14° hill.

So closer to ~24% grade average maybe? It's damn steep is the point regardless.

My town is on the side of a volcano, a 30% grade is like the average hill here.

That combines with the heavy weight of an ebike, another 50lb+ of cargo in the saddlebags, plus my exceptionally fat ass means I burn through a pair of front brake pads about once a month if I'm running errands most days.

I find regen exciting for it's ability to slow down my brake pads getting shredded every month. The fact that I get some energy back from it is mostly a bonus.

I feel like Steam is the only legitimate option of the 4, the rest are walled gardens.

I would have been very excited about this Galaxy XR development a year ago but today I don't care to even scroll down the page. Google's recent Android bullshit(walled garden, killing roms) makes this a non-starter.

In fact I wonder if Android/Galaxy XR is secretly responsible for these horrible changes to stock android. No chance of a XR/real life adblocker ever becoming a thing if you can't install your own software and/or the largest advertiser in the world needs to OK it's existence.

Ah yeah, I misread/misunderstood. I though they were saying they are transitioning INTO an RIR, as in becoming an RIR themselves.
