The convenient part is having a public IP address to connect to from anywhere. You would need either exposing your home infrastructure to the internet or a cheap VPS.

Not that hard to solve, but it's an extra hurdle in the setup for something as critical as the networking to connect to your stuff from anywhere. I just think everyone is over-reliant on Tailscale when it's pretty obvious they'll rug-pull as soon as they run out of VC money to burn or get acquired.

So, it's convenient... for now. A future migration is inevitable when using Tailscale, and I prefer to solve problems once.

Project Scripts 1 year ago

I prefer to have a “scripts” directory with each script being a separate executable, maybe a comment on top of each script. Discoverability is just looking at the file system with any tool you’re used to.

Both Bash and Python are a given anywhere. I use Bash for simple stuff and Python for the complex stuff. Thanks to each script being a separate file, I can mix Bash and Python, but using only Python is very valid.

Im curious about what the password for postgres looked like.

This exact thing happened to a friend, but there was no need to exploit obscure memory safety vulnerabilities, the password was “password”.

My friend learnt that day that you can start processes in the machine from Postgres.

If a friend asks me how to get organised, I always tell them to use pen and paper as a first step.

You might use it just for a day or two, but something clicks in your head, you find your workflow, and now you’re able to use more specialised tools.

If you're working for a company that does something bad, let's say 50% bad, and now the company participates in something 90% bad, you're an hypocrite for raising concern?

People have to balance their morality, their personal goals and their income. It's obvious that a shift in the company morality raises concerns.

This pretends that no gray areas exists, and that participating any slightly unethical activity invalidates your opinion about greater problems.

Giving your credentials to an AI to buy stuff online by scraping a web interface is a perfectly sane and safe idea that won't have any unexpected consequences whatsoever.
