I Google or Yahoo rewarded minor bugs. They should care about 404s or a tool tip bubble with no tip. I find minor bugs on all major websites all the time.

I'm in the same boat. In the hospital, on the day of my birth my mother looked at me and said "college". Needless to say I did not do the proper cost/benefit analysis at the age of 17. I took a flight once and I carried on my coin collection. All that metal set off a red flag so they took me to a private room to examine my collection. The TSA was generally polite, but at one point while shuffling my collection around the table a coin fell on the floor. My favorite coin. It was a commemorative coin for Operation Enduring Freedom that my cousin gave me. Other than pictures, it's the only thing I have left to remember him by. As I picked the coin up from the floor, with newly minted scratches no doubt, I couldn't help but think of the symbolism.

I think the technology part in this case comes from the fact that it had a real world application, albeit an aesthetic one.

Yeah, the YouTube one is really bad. The pop-up really needs to be redone too. It used to be a nice easy to understand wizard and as soon as you saw it you could tell instantly you weren't interested. Now it's an awkwardly worded choice and you have to take the time to read and think about it. I might even go so far as to call it a dark usability pattern. Where's the "don't ask me again" checkbox?

Personally, I like commenting on really unseemly videos and only having an obscure username attached to it.

Isn't anybody going to talk about the irony of a developer service that found success without writing any code? I think the take away is git or ftp, ruby or php, sql or a text file, json or xml. Customers don't care, not even developers. I find that interesting.

That sounds cool, but I don't get it. I don't see anything that would allow a "doer" to jump in. A "doer" is not going to know what a string or an array is. Am I missing something here?

The thing that is not talked about enough, and not mentioned in the article, is the underlying reason. That reason, of course, is Mickey Mouse. Every time Mickey Mouse is about to fall into the public domain the Disney lobby has congress extend the copyright expiration.

I would stick to my position if it escalated to violence. The best strategy to counter terrorism is not to give up freedom. Giving up freedom is society acting as if it is terrorized. Acting terrorized is exactly what terrorist want.

Whether he wrote a song, a poem, a joke, a virus infected his computer and posted it, a friend wrote it while he wasn't looking, a hacker got in and wrote it, or any one of a million ways it could have come into existence or be interpreted, the government does not have to right to suppress his speech, set excessive bail, and seize his person. That is why we have the 1st, 4th, and 8th amendments. If all speech was happy-go-lucky speech, it wouldn't need to be protected.

I would rather die in a terrorist attack, then live without liberty. Look up the number of deaths caused by smoking, cars, alcohol, and obesity and then compare them to the deaths from terrorist. Then explain to my why we can't risk having a kid express himself. When did we become the land of the oppressed and the home of those scared by words?

Think about what it means, why it was said, what the logic is behind it, what the philosophy is behind it. Say it over and over to yourself. Say it to friends and family. Memorize it. Live by it. Kittens are gigantic, compared to protozoa. That doesn't mean we should describe kittens as cute, fuzzy, and gigantic. I would be ok with "only 22 lightyears away." But "nearby"? Most people have a hard time grasping the size of our galaxy. "Nearby" does not help promote a good understanding of the discovery IMHO.
