Four Better Rules for Software Design

Well service depends on where you live.

Tell me about it. I have to drive about 100 miles to the nearest Audi dealership to get my Audi fixed. The nearest Tesla service center is 180 miles away. I really want a Tesla, but I'd pretty much have to do all of the servicing myself.

Ten years from now no one will even remember or care that master/slave was a term in computing.

I don't think it will take them that long to regret this change. Now that everyone knows linux will just roll over, they'll push for greater changes to the "Code of Conduct." Then developers will get deplatformed at an alarming rate. And I'll have my popcorn ready. It'll be quite the show.

Because it actually works, most of the time. The controller isn't horrible. The commonly used apps, like Twitch, Youtube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc all work.

I got so fed up with my Samsung SmartTV and it's horrible controller and glitchy apps that I run my tv through an old laptop now.

I tried a FireTV stick for a bit. It's wasn't powerful enough to drive my 4k tv.

The gifs in the readme showing the functionality you want to highlight is a nice touch. I wish more projects did that.

Your premise is flawed. Yellow shirts don't kill people. Not wearing a mask does not kill people. Letting a TSA officer fondle your groin doesn't save people's lives. It's all security theater.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

A combination of good cooling + a tweaked power management profile to accommodate the better thermals should give a substantial performance increase.

Give it a try and report back.

edit: Wow, HN has changed. There was a time when experimentation was encouraged here.

Watch the whole video. They managed to keep the laptop ice cold with a custom heatsink, but even then only managed to eek out a 12% performance improvement. As it turns out, Apple actually knows what they're doing.

Crop dusting is still a thing. I live in the middle of nowhere and there are several strips of flat grassland that are landing strips for crop dusters.

Wireless Is a Trap 6 years ago

By that rationale, walking is deadly. Breathing is deadly. Sleeping is deadly. This is not a valid argument supporting the stance that wifi is deadly.

I'm talking exclusively about the US. Different markets have different market shares. Different countries have different monopoly and antitrust laws. Limiting it to the biggest market, and the one most germane to HN, is what makes it possible to have a discussion. Otherwise, we're all just talking to ourselves.

Isn't this extremely obvious?

Yes and no.

The obvious answer is to make your own device with your own OS and make it better than iOS or android. That used to be difficult, but the quality of iOS and android has been declining for a long time. We're at the point where an alternative could be viable for somebody with deep enough pockets and the know-how.

The not-so obvious answer is we have lots of evidence over the years of the tech sector engaging in anticompetitive and illegal actions with very little consequence. Apple, Google and Facebook colluding not to poach each other's employees. Intel threatening to cut off relations with any computer manufacturer that deals with AMD.

It's very likely that Google and Apple would use their influence and power to kill any viable competitor. So, how do you deal with that?
