I'm sorry these videos are joke and not realistic at all. The instructor is sitting behind her looking at what she is doing and it also helps him describe what she should do. If he was turned around and looking at the wall it would be a bit more realistic. All that said I doubt most people would even figure out how to speak to atc.

I primarily use /river and I can say I definitely do not like it. It's not easy to glance at and scan also the emphasis seems to be on the Journalist and Media outlet not the story.
Ok this will sound completely naive but whatever happened to the customer is always right? Ok yes, I agree that is a bit overstated but in this case he was right and Gabe came out all puffed up and aggressive from the start and continued and continued (I actually like at the end when he realizes who he is emailing back and forth to). Maybe I'm just naive but I believe the smart businessman (woman) puts the customers first.
Your assertion that VMware is too expensive is just plain false. The company I work for (Virtacore) offers vCloud Express and we have come to great terms with VMware and our pricing reflects that. While we don't have all the features EC2 offers (because we are only a couple months old and still building out the product) we feel they are extremely expensive. IMO they like to nickel and dime users while we keep it very simple.
I love the fact that Andrew shares how he thinks when interviewing guests and isn't judgmental. He understands that their are a bunch of different approaches to business and not just one correct method.
I know Gary is preaching to the choir here but I love his energy and his message I wish more companies were honest. I think that is changing a bit but it hasn't completely caught on.
Makes me sad to see this, I've probably flown some of those in the pic.

I work at an IaaS company and we hear the same thing daily most want to focus on what they do best and often it's not server hugging.
Also companies that embrace the cloud have changed how they do things because they see the efficiencies and recognize that they don't want to be in the business of managing servers.

This brings back so many fond memories. I made some many friends and learned that gaming wasn't just for young kids, I met all types of folks. Great Times.
I agree it seems like companies just add game mechanics for the sake of it. However, I don't blame them for trying if I thought it had a chance of success I'd try it but if it failed I'd remove it immediately and try figure out why things aren't working.
Just like social media it isn't a cure all it's only one small part of the bigger equation.
Go to school, get a good education, go get a good job and live happily ever after. Guess what the world changes and that doesn't cut it anymore. Now I believe in making my own future.

So do you think stories are written the same way today? I agree the first paragraph is usually the most important it's loaded to get you to read more. However do you think journalists / bloggers have the time to think a story through and not add opinion?
While I see your logic and I'm sure you are spot on, it doesn't mean it's right. All of what you say is probably a good reason why companies take advantage of the government. Not saying yours does but we've all heard the crazy military purchase stories.
Wow, you don't ask the easy questions do you. I would say, yes big corporations are out of the mix. As far as startups go it will depend not all will be accepting of your past ventures. However, some will think you are very creative and know an opportunity when they see it.
If I were you, the truth is always the easiest path, if you choose not to bring it up you can get fired. It's also a lot less stressful. Just be very ready to talk about it and show why.
The only other thing I will add is you will have to understand that not every startup will be accepting and roll with the punches. I truly believe that if you are honest you will be given a chance.

I think the reason is many companies have shed their private jets for timeshare jets like Netjets offers. The pilots flying these don't always know who their clients are and the planes can still be used as weapons. I doubt Apple has done this but many have and their is no way for gov. officials to know the difference.

I agree Google Instant will more than likely be changing the PPC model. It will ultimately come down to the users of search and if people embrace Google's new approach. However, if a creative approach surfaces we'll see it here first. Kind of like my favorite search DuckDuckGo.
I read something similar about Starbucks. Their approach is or was to be located next to a dry cleaner or movie rental business (when they existed). The thought was that people have to go to those stores twice to drop-off and pick-up and they thought it increased the chances that people would stop in for a coffee.
I agree, every bit of the airline experience is being outsourced to the lowest bidder (from flying the planes down to fixing them). It's all too easy to purchase a ticket and never talk to any of the parent airline's employees but you'd never know. In some cases this is good and while in some cases, not so much.
IMO, most of the airlines don't want employees or to control a brand they just want to sell tickets.
One cannot gain access to the facility with a hand scan alone. Their are special badges and challenge requirements.
Yes, I would agree for first class data centers this is ground breaking but not all services are hosted in such facilities. How many DIY data centers have dedicated security?
The question is a bit vague but I would be ready for the following:
- Your road map may appear clear now but expect to pivot - Don't believe all the hype with your first success, keep working hard - Marketing and standing out in the crowd is difficult - Start building relationships now with influencers who you'd like to engage later
Without more on actually what you need advice on is tough but all I can say is be ready for highs and lows and try keep plugging away.

You are correct I saw a demonstration with the computer tethered to a smartphone and it worked surprisingly well.
I hate to say it but yes you have too much time on your hands if you are getting all spooled up over news articles. Most of what you mentioned is headline grabbing which panders to the extreme left and right. My advice for peace in life don't get involved in politics.
As far as where to live, I would list the 10 companies / people you admire and see where the majority live. Then focus on your web presence so that when you try get a job at company X that when they search you online they find good stuff. If the CEO has a blog comment on occasion when you have something interesting to say and if you get an interview be sure to showcase your comments and web presence.

Thank you all for your insights, I've basically learned that their in no right or wrong answer. A big part come from just stepping up to the plate and giving one a go and see where it leads. It sounds like it will lead to learning different languages when I want to do different things. If I heard correctly over time they all become easier to learn because you have the fundamentals under your belt.
Yesterday I talked with a friend at Jaspin Interactive and he added some insight into the open source vs commercial coding, pluses and minuses and front end vs back end. Which helped a lot, because knowing what you plan to do down the road most definitely will help your decision.
So here is my plan I'm going to learn the front stuff a bit more HTML, CSS and JavaScript and then move to the back end. I will most likely go with something opensource and see what sticks.
