If you find value in it, that's fine. I not only find value with interaction with the lovely checkout people, I dislike the cost of scanning and managing the items during checkout being my problem so a huge company can save money. If they were to implement a discount as a way to say "we'll pay you for your work to give us your money" I would consider it.

That's not to say the value of the convenience is never worth it. I exclusively use Sam's Club scan-and-go because the time I save is much larger than the publix/walmart/ect.

Agreed whole heartedly. Apollo makes it easy and concise. I tried old.reddit recently and the ads were less then the new side of things but no thank you.

When pre-modern battlefields are brought up, I often think of the Battle of the Bastards scene from Game of Thrones. One of the few battle scenes that gives me the cold sweats. Watching the absolutely suffocating clash of flesh and metal is horrific.

I like weblock (I believe were talking about the same by Futuremind) but I prefer their other app Adblock (I posted a small quib about it ~15 replies up from this reply). You can also, if you want; copy the PAC weblock sets up for you, host it yourself on github and then set it up as your own proxy for whatever wifi you connect to.

Use Adblock from futuremind. It cost less than a beer. It set’s up a local dns vpn so you can still use a VPN like nordvpn. You can then block any type IP or set up complex rules. I’ve been able to block youtube ads and all the other stuff on their page. I only see the video I go to. The only limiting thing is a 5000 url/ip limit and that I have to open up and restart the App once a day usually.

Also under experimental settings for safari, only enable

  disable web SQL

  block top level redirects from third party sites

  swap processes on cross site navigation

To play devils advocate; who doesn’t want to protect themselves and that which they’ve worked for? From the poor who’ve worked hard for the past year to save up for engine for the late 70s truck. To the middle(ish) class who’ve worked hard for their first purchased two bedroom home. To the middle upperclass who’ve gone on a vacation to Branson Missouri. To pretty much everyone with children. To the ultra wealthy that are worth seven figures and up. Everyone wants to protect what they feel they’ve worked hard for. That includes the proposed ultra wealthy that have the means to insure they aren’t pulled into Epstein’s legal whirlpool.

If it exists, it makes sense they would protect themselves.

As a lightroom person; I hope I’m not missing out on something extrodinary using a ~2 year old off-line version.

When I do mind numbing chores like washing dishes, mowing the lawn, laundry; I can’t help but sit inside my head and have conversations with myself about whatever is deemed important at that moment.
