The second half differs dramatically in tone. If you were really into the specific feeling of the first half, it is very jarring.

I found the whole thing very interesting and enjoyable, but I can imagine being excited for more content similar to the first half and being disappointed by the drastic shift in scale/tone/focus/etc.

This is very foreign to my way of thinking.

I commission artists somewhat regularly, and if I had to name the top two reasons, they would be 1) I really like their style, and want a piece in that style 2) I want to support them so they can continue making the art I like.

Meeting my checklist of inclusions is important, but definitely secondary to the reasons above. (And sometimes the deviations are reflections of the artist's particular style and therefore welcome.)

I think you are saying something fundamentally different than the parent comment.

I think they are saying 'make something that appeals specifically to you as the creator, and it will resonate with some people out there'.

I personally agree that this seems top result in works I enjoy. (As evidenced by behind-the-scenes content or interviews with creators espousing a similar philosophy.)

Panoramax[0] is another, perhaps more open option, though it is currently primarily used in Europe.

The iOS client is available through testglight right now, and has this in a banner on the repo:

Anecdotally, myself and several others can no longer connect to Flatpak, and downdetector shows an increasing report count.

In both cases you pay for the energy used, it's just that there are many more steps to get that energy to your watch!

I think the trouble here stems from the lack of alternatives to the small group of payment processors. The near-monopoly allows their choices to override the choice of all the other involved groups, and almost no viable alternatives exist for Valve to move to if they disagree.

There is a tradition of placing small tokens or flowers on his palm! At one point the owner had a tumblr where they posted pictures of the offerings it received occasionally.

For those concerned about contributing to Mapillary specifically, there are alternatives to contribute to, like Panoramax, which is fully open source and supports federated instances, and is not owned by Meta.

This seems like quintessential whataboutism. I think expanding on how that concern is "largely invented" would serve your point better. I, at least, would be interested.

Regarding [1], do you foresee this changing at some point? I'm interested in self hosting, bit have heard consistently that it is painful, so I've been waiting in the hopes that it will eventually improve.

Parent may be imagining a carpeted apartment, which would make cleanup more difficult.

When I was in such a location I used silicone project mats with raised edges fastidiously to avoid ever dripping on the carpet.

You can also mark segments in the downloaded files with that combination of tools, which is useful and non-destructive.
