I always forget that we're not quite the normal crowd here in Hacker News. I think I need to stop reading so many comments on this site. Trying to convince me that I'm a sociopath for posting my grandma's obituary on my timeline.

Posting it to social media, then thinking if whoever doesn’t contact you to… what? “Sorry for your loss”? “My condolences” … hurts your relationship with that person?
That's not what anyone said, you're out here fighting ghosts.
And if someone doesn't reach out, it will hurt the relationship a little even if I'm not conscience of it because when I think of people who were there for me during a tough time, the friend who never knew my parent died wouldn't come to mind.
No, it's not. It's more like an online bookstore mailing you a copy of a book for free. The only catch is that they also sent a book full of ads and directions that say: after every page of the book, look at an ad. Then, when I receive these, I don't even take the ad book out of the package, read the actual book, and send them both back.
You can imagine why Amazon never decided to go with this business model.
the ones that have managed to take advantage of the massive financialization of the world
This group is further split into two kinds of people: Those who had an opportunity to take advantage of the massive financialization of the world, and those who weren't afforded that opportunity.
I can second Vancouver, and will raise you any big city in the USA
I'll reraise you any decent size college town in the US as well.
Heck, I'm in Iowa and there's plenty of raves in the middle of nowhere here.
Home office nudges towards isolation and lack of physical activity
You say this as if it's a fact, but with an extra 1-3 hours of my day freed up, it's a lot easier to get into the gym or visit my friends and family. Personally, I was more active and less isolated when I worked from home.

Yeah, I'm thinking you're right.
In my experience (American), the top 1-4 results are ads/sponsored links. Sometimes, very relevant to the search. Most of the time, not what I'm looking for.
I only use google search on my phone because I have a pixel, and the google searchbar is so well integrated into the launcher. If I don't like the results, I can just open a new tab and the default search is DuckDuckGo. Besides the ads, I'd say the searches are usually the same quality.
Rural Iowa here. I've seen them in populations as big as 30,000 (Mason City, Iowa for example)
Bitwarden also stores authenticator keys for MFA and passkeys. The custom fields, notes section, and attachments are invaluable to me as well.
I'm curious, how would looking at the Microsoft MFA app convince me that android apps aren't spying on me?
I'm not sure I'd give the student a 0.
Completely agree with you on all of it, but, to let you know, sometimes there are school-wide policies on plagiarism that teachers have to follow. My highschool made teachers give an automatic 0 for any plagiarism.
Was this a PE owned vet clinic? They're much more common today and the practices have slowly become more predatory.
Decent idea but it will be circumvented with ai powered watermark removers. They already exist and will only get better as ai image generation gets better.

Looks like they want to capture the anime market and push AI Anime film/game combos.
What do you mena you can't post comments? I see this jsut fine.
That link states that they only have two data points tied to an account: time of account creation and time of last connection. Since phone numbers are used as the account identifier, law enforcement would need to supply the phone number for signal to look up the account, right?
Do you have any source for Signal supplying IP logs?
I believe they mean similar to the fonts when you're learning the alphabet, not when you're learning to read. Like those books where you trace "A" ten times then "a" 10 times then "B" and so on.
Wow, I was about to comment the same thing. Glad to have my assumptions validated by someone else.

Yes. You must opt in. When you opt in, you can elect to show your full name, or just initals (may be other options but I opted in long ago).
Startups typically issue shares or options but restrict selling of them
They have to explicitly restrict selling of the shares through contract means. That's because ownership is the legal right to possess, use, or give away (sell) a thing. Likewise, Nebula has to explicitly restrict selling of partial ownership through contract means.

unrelated: another big cause of tinnitus is Viagra. it drives too much blood to the sensitive ear arteries
Could pre-workout have these same effects? They usually contain vasodilators, although at much lower strengths than Viagra.
The "standard Canadian accent" is pretty close to the Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota dialects -- sometimes called North-Central American English. Nowhere else in America really talks like that, though, and no one would call it the standard accent. I would say less than 4% of Americans speak with that accent.
Midland American English is what we would call the standard American accent. Most of Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and parts of surrounding states speak in this.
