First time I've ever seen something like this. Fascinating.

I recently learned that the CEO of the holding company that owns my employer made several hundred million dollars last year...while my coworkers and I are told to stop asking for raises (I've had approximately ONE since 2020 and the cost of living has never stopped increasing).

Pain.

I say this every time the topic of SO/AI comes up.

LLMs took off for me when I realized I didn't have to be an expert to ask questions and get a non-patronizing response.

There was a time when I asked something along the lines of, "How do you get your own protocol like http://?" and was told to take my question to another StackExchange site. This happened several more times (along with dismissive responses and votes to close my question) before I gave up.

Moore's Law or something. Were you alive in 2005? The Nintendo DS getting the Opera browser was a big deal. THAT 2005 with today's LLMs? Hilarious.

I wrote this out of frustration when interviewing with Hashicorp (7 interview gauntlet) and getting ghosted. A friend of mine just went through a similar situation recently and wow, how is this still relevant?

The SV attitude isn't there but there's active assholes who wield their moderation weirdly. I deactivated my account before deactivations were added to the logs and I don't remember what made me quit. I've largely avoided Lobsters since.

I joined their IRC channel last week and it's been rather chill.

I do like the invite-only nature of the site though, keeps quality high...while making some folks tyrannical.

Thanks!

The author didn't "go out of his way to blame shitty SF." At least, that's not what I (and seemingly most other people) got from it.

He's speaking to the AGI nuts who are convinced humans are going the way of the dodo because of AI and that kind of hype only really works in SF (and SF-pilled areas).

The speed-up improvements are incredible, can't wait for this to rollout to Deno. Everything I build uses TypeScript so I'm excited to see just how quick my apps compile.
