It absolutely isn't. Lots of things have dead man switches, like locomotives and heavy machinery, and they're named as such.

Even less so if it's on the space station. Or on a Mars rover. But we're talking about cars. Something a lot of people like to mend for themselves.
A mechanical switch is easy and cheap to fix or replace. A touch screen is the opposite. It cannot be repaired, only replaced. A switch can usually be cleaned easily, to restore its function. And proper quality switches can be actuated millions of times before failure.
EU probably felt they were justified in their meddling. Meanwhile, we have been eating Danish cinnamon pastries for who knows how long, and by some miracle have not died. The entire tyrannical bureaucracy of the EU undoubtedly feel they're doing a great service, while a lot of people feel they're sticking their noses where they don't belong, making problems where none exist to justify their existence.

Every comment like yours attacks the strawman that the CEO and employees should not get paid. Nobody is saying that. But I'm absolutely not going to donate anything while the CEO takes out over 800000 dollars in pay, and it looks distasteful to me to go around begging for donations.
If you want to do anything with GPS modules, some fine and talented people have done the hard work of interfacing with, and parsing the output of a lot of different receivers, and called it `gpsd`.
In 2013, instead of solving real actual problems, the EU were upset that danish cinnamon rolls might have too much cinnamon in them. The ban was avoided by a reclassification of the product.

You're right, I don't know what I was thinking with that comment.
Per recent postings on HN about /dev/urandom, wouldn't it fine to use data from that, rather than bothering with AES output. /dev/urandom should be cryptographically safe.
I've gotten a few of these, and I don't really see the point. I got one from my phone company, assuring me that I would not experience interruptions. Well okay then - I wasn't expecting it to go down, and in case it did, that's when I would expect an email about it.
It honestly just feels like brands are treating this as an excuse to send email reminding people that they exist. "Hey since you're just sitting at home on your couch in your underwear, why not shop for new pants on LEVIS.COM, so you can look sharp when this whole things has blown over!"

I've been baking for years, because despite all the fancy cuisine that exists (and I do appreciate that too), there's nothing quite like fresh warm bread with a generous layer of butter on top. It's something special that you can't buy anywhere.
I did this just the other day. I left out about 20% of the normal wheat flour, and added some whole wheat flour. You can't substitute it 1:1, so experiment a little until the dough feels right.

I think JavaScript is what started the downward spiral that ruined the web. It's what enabled the shoehorning of the web browser into an application framework. Now Google, Facebook and Amazon and a few others control it, and are actively hostile against anyone who doesn't align with their interests.

I've not been on Facebook for years, and I tried doing this recently. It was relentless in pestering me for a phone number for "security reasons". It would not accept any of the online SMS services I found. I ended up abandoning it.

How about Apple bring down the hammer on apps that are abusing notifications right now (or you just uninstall them), instead of allowing ways to shove more ads into peoples eyeballs.
There is no scenario where this is a benefit to the consumer.
