Market size is different: everyone needs a mail client, but not everyone needs 3d modelling.

Hmm strange, I have never had a thunderbird folder in my home dir. I use thunderbird on Mac, Windows and Linux (Ubuntu).
You can also just put a paper on your website (or google drive). If arXiv isn’t working for you, why submit there?
Personally, i see no problem with delays, research takes longer than a few days. Reviews take a few weeks or months even.
Which also shows there isn’t “one father”, multiple things (and people) had to come together.
No. In the Netherlands is not common to cycle on side walks. We have cycling lanes for that! Pedestrians and cyclists only meet at crossings. (The behaviour of cyclists in the big cities might be different though.)
You can have your own version. You don’t have to push all improvements upstream.
It (the http rfc) refers to other standards such as for URLs, and those did actually change (to include ipv6 and more internationalisation).
Producing phones emits a lot of CO2 (or equivalents). It takes more energy to produce, than the amount of energy a phone uses in its typical life.
But yeah, these are great questions which are not obvious at all and should be answered when proposing such a system.
You really don’t have to change your css. My personal website has been using roughly the same css for a decade. Why not?
Sure if you are a designer and want to follow trends, you’ll have to keep your css skills up to date. But for most websites, you can use css from a decade ago.
You could at least fix the latex commands when copy pasting the abstract. ;-)
I used audacity 20 years ago and the interface is still the same. That is also worth something.
On the other hand, the language is already 35 years old and people still use it! Many other languages have died in the meantime.
No. These are polynomials (in x).
I think the current situation shows that outsourcing is also expensive. The costs are just different or not always clear up front.
If you don’t like the taste, you shouldn’t drink it, imo. So yes, one enjoys coffee exactly for the flavour.
Why?
They are told to believe that.
“Almost everywhere” is a mathematical term and can mean two things (I think):
- except finitely many, or
- except a set of measure zero.
I played that too!
I find it so annoying that certain apps update every single time I open them. Why can’t they build something more stable?
I just do <website>@<myhost.tld>. It is sometimes confusing by when interacting with customer support ;-)
Surface Pro 4, it is an older model, so it cannot run Win11. Indeed I needed a custom kernel.
I’m still quite happy with Win10 though.
I’ll have a look at Linux again.
I’ve tried Linux on an older surface pro. It sucks, pen/touch is not reliable, the device wouldn’t shut off properly which drained the battery. But I guess NASA would have the budget to resolve that.
Many compilers do change a recursion into a loop, avoiding the stack altogether!
It doesn’t really. The website thinks I’m on a iPhone 19 pro, although I’m actually on a iPhone SE 1st gen. So it’s off by roughly a decade.
The hash is the same. But a hash set has to use == in case of equal hashes (to avoid collisions).
I used to have a 2011 MBP and a M1 air at the same time. I actually preferred the mechanical trackpad of the MBP. Unfortunately that laptop died.
Doesn’t AdGuard work?
If you upload to arxiv, there are explicit instructions which tell you what latex commands work and which don’t for the abstract. The authors didn’t read those instructions.
What do you mean by “these days”? To me, it seems like rust is a pretty constant factor on HN for at least two years now.
