Great drugs. Have dropped 10+kg couple of times and tried a few more with low carb. Dropped 20+kg with Ozempic and it boosted me to exercise. Its wonderful that even a string of bad nights don't push me to overeat: even if I eat more during the day it tapers of in the evening whereas before ut would just continue.

Looks like the links in the posts no longer work, but all the posts are readable and he goes through the work they did and why. They did a lot of usability testing for the ribbon. But anyways I have no horse in this race other than liking ribbon over 16x16 icons and menus, so no point in hashing this over.

See, I feel like that's almost the exact opposite unless you assume Apple and its internal legal department is made up of the biggest idiots on the planet. If they were intending on just infringing this valid patent and trying to get away with it, then they've literally handed the world a paper trail that makes them look as bad as possible without a literal email being published in the newspaper from Tim Cook saying "Yea, just violate the patent".

They don't really need to be idiots. They just need to trust that there is a reasonable chance that Masimo won't do anything about it and if they do, there is reasonable chance that Apple wins in court and if they don't there might be appeals and if not they might have come up with better non-infringing tech and if not then they can come to license agreement with Masimo. With that train of thought I think its pretty reasonable that Apple acted the way they acted.

This. No matter how intelligent you are, you can not make connections between things you don't know about. If you externalise all knowledge you are ultimately just extension of that knowledge source.

Originally in the W. Royce article from the 70s it was a strawman put up by Royce. He then went on to define much more reasonable iterative model.

Unfortunately the strawman was what started getting traction.

Other than the fact it seems to be an industry standard so it's good for your job prospects, what are the benefits to Terraform over CloudFormation/CDK or whatever the equivalent is for your particular cloud provider?

For me the killer feature is that both plan and apply show the actual diff of changes vs running infrastructure. It makes understanding effects of changes much easier.

Self checkout at as implemented in local shops has odd value proposition for the shopper. Basically it is more hassle and marginally faster for the benefit of allowing the shop owner to fire some people. Compare this to handling bank transfer at your own home computer or mobile phone versus going to the bank during business hours.

Indeed, the collective bargaining power of employees is less than it used to be. This will likely become more and more an issue in the current century as the benefits of automation will line mostly the pockets of the owning class. The current concept of fairness of pay and trust in market forces is evident in these comments as well. I think at some point there needs to be some adjustment there. Maybe that will happen before the middle class disappears completely.
