This study will learn things about how a biased sample of the population answer choices in a simple game depending on the context given; extrapolation from that basis to anything wider, for example the notion that the players view these choices as "moral" requires far more work. It is well known that people use games for escapism, so it does not seem straightforward that the decisions they make in a game always map cleanly to their real opinions just because you put "moral" in the title of the game.

Its also worth keeping in mind that moral decisions have been explored for quite some time, and the novelty here is mainly the mode with which the population is sampled.

If the "Swedish official" you refereed to is Peter Fallenius, he was sentenced to three years in jail in a lower court and this was upheld by the supreme court (basically his appeal was rejected because he didn't turn up[1]).

Historically China has fought wars over its borders, there is no obvious reason why they should switch to a US style expeditionary military with world wide ambitions. That the contested islands are uninhabited in that well populated part of the world should tell you enough about the conflict: it is a local squabble over potential resources, decide it in an international court all parties can agree on and stop using it as a reason to wave your carrier dicks around.

Why would gchat have as many users as facebook anyway? It's not like gmail was a community like facebook was. MSN meanwhile basically started as a chat client, there where ads for it on tv in Sweden...

Yeah, it'd be nice if IM just settled on some interoperable basis. I think there is an eternal need for a new chat app (as each new generation of school children create their first accounts on some service their parents aren't already on, and someone will fill that gap) but I liked the years when I could just add another account to adium and manage it that way. These last years it just been accounts dying off, and the new smartphone apps not really working well in my desktop client :(

If you want to talk about confusing, in gitter I can navigate to a room and see what happens in it but I need to press an extra button to actually be able to talk in it? What? Rooms, private chats and /me? Many parts of gitter doesn't make sense if you don't know the whole chat paradigm that irc created.

Gitter derives it utility purely in the better web client and its custom built integration with github.

Yeah, you needed aim if you wanted to chat with some americans when I played utopia. Meanwhile the big IM breakthrough among my less technical friends was msn. I quite quickly found a stand along multi-protocol client and I've stuck to that mode of managing IM since when I could control it.

Yeah, I found the lack of discussion about possible causes by modifying atomic physics rather than go directly to new particles disappointing. I usually don't congratulate people on their birthday on Facebook, because there are so many birthdays and it feels more fair to neglect uniformly. But then Facebook introduced a small widget that let me leave comment directly from my news feed, making it almost effortless to comment!

So I started writing a "Cheers!" in that box, because now it was so easy. Of course, it was so easy as to feel almost completely meaningless.
