Came here to hopefully post or see ctrlp fuzzy search for vim. When I didn't see it recommended I was shocked. It completely changed the way I interact with my files while I develop.

The Parallella project will make parallel computing accessible to everyone.

I think their marketing is a bit off on this one. Does everyone actually need parallel computing on this scale? I don't think so. Those who do need it likely already have CUDA running on GPGPUs. Not that I'm implying stifle innovation but the crowd they're marketing to seems to be way off base.

17 year olds may be able to do all of those things, however we know that the average male's forebrain doesn't fully develop until much later, as much as 8 years later. Some males aged 25 still have not developed to the point of advanced reasoning. Reasoning like being able to see the consequences and harm done by stunts such as sending threats like this. It's certainly not enough to dismiss this and say "he's 17, he's not a child anymore".

I'm not saying that it being your main language is bad, it's just the syntax is absolutely terrible to read and understand for those of us on C-style languages. If the point was to teach others, the vast majority of your audience is not going to be reading coffeescript and learning much.

Out of all the languages to choose from it just had to be coffescript...

Same here. Colour games can be frustrating for us differently-coloured people. :P I can imagine how this is really fun for someone who can see colour properly. Maybe as a challenge the author could include colour blind mode?

You have to realize this app existed in the apple-sphere. The user base is part of a very entitlement based generation for the most part. That's why there's so much rage.

I've found that Laravel is quite a bit nicer than most other frameworks in PHP. It uses some stuff from Symfony as well. I don't think it's contending with Django quite yet, but it's extremely nice to use and work with. I honestly don't feel like I'm writing PHP when using it.

I found the quickest way to learn how to use it was just install it. The code is commented very well and is quite expressive in it's syntax so looking up the docs has been, for the most part, an exercise in "what params does Str::limit take?".

It would be nice if they tailored the searches a bit more to geo-location. I search for things and end up getting craigslist results for SF even though I'm in Canada.

One of the largest improvements I've noticed in between caching and optimizing in PHP has been turning on APC. I'm not aware of any drawbacks, if you have any let me know. I didn't do any bench marking, but it did make a significant impact on page loads to my eye, as well as the stats on the page.

They seem to be focusing 100% on making dom/css editing pretty but forgetting all about javascript and requests/headers etc. What gives? While this 3D dom stuff looks neat, doesn't make me want to switch from Chrome at all because it's not going to add anything to my day job which does involve DOM/CSS, but also heaps of javascript as well.

Saying anything anti-rails or anti-apple on HN would be blasphemy methinks. I think the issue with node is it has a little bit of promise for a small number of applications, but there's a lot of falsehoods that are propagated around node. The whole "non-blocking means that it scales to infinity and beyond" and other stuff like that are things that need to be reigned in. Scalability is a lot more than just saying "well, throw nodejs at it and you're done."

If you're looking for power with 7-8 hours of battery life, checkout the Y570 from Lenovo. Seems like this "aspiring IT professional" needs to do a LOT more research than just checking out whatever new macbook is out. I spent $700 on my laptop, and put a 120GB SSD in for another $100 and I do have the 8 hours of battery life and instant wake up (arguably almost instant boot as well, it only takes ~10 seconds). I don't disagree that laptops aren't about to get better (ivey bridge is going to be huge), but they're always getting better.

I have a hard time understanding the whole deal everyone is making of Google finally combining the whole ecosystem they have into one nice package. I don't think the author knows that Google already knows what you use in Google docs, they already mine your email to show ads to you, they already do everything he talks about, they're just now going to let you have access to it through search instead of having to go to mail/reader/youtube/etc individually. This seems like much ado about nothing. Google isn't trying to wall people up in it's ecosystem, they're simply trying to unify all of the services they offer into one point of contact, which, as a user of many of these services, I applaud.

If you check out http://mrdoob.github.com/three.js/ you'll see that WebGL/Canvas is way beyond the flash/java games. Both do have low-level shaders right now and more improvements are coming all the time.
