It really is astounding how bad national brands are. Everything loaded with sugar and salt. Lowest quality ingredients in everything, and I do mean everything.

I bought a package of national brand slice turkey. Threw it right away. It was dripping in chlorine. Things like national or regional brand ground beef is vile, and nothing can be done to it to make it edible. I bought a package years ago, grilled up burgers. I had to throw every single one of them away because they STANK.

Our bread is a joke. Bakeries no longer smell like bakeries because they aren't making bread, but a bread substitute. Chemical leaveners, trash flour, loaded with sugar and salt. Extra absurdity? Some brands dye the crusts brown because the leaveners they use doesn't brown in the oven.

Candy is also a joke. Fake chocolate, tiny portions and very chemically tasting. Expensive, too. 75 cents for a bar the size of my ring finger.

Extra insults? Everything is shrinkflated. Less product for higher prices.

https://www.reddit.com/r/shrinkflation/ $22 for a package of toilet paper that has 1/3 less paper than before.

Prices are out of sight. 3 years ago, 1lb of real deli roast beef was $7. Now $20. Costs almost $30 to make a pot of stew. Used to cost $10.

I could write for hours on this subject. The garbage produced is that prolific.

Exactly this. I own the Framework desktop board. I knew all of its limitations before I bought it, and it's ok to play with on a hobby level, but it isn't much more than a Radio Shack toy.

That memory bandwidth is painful. It's like trying to fill an Olympic swimming pool with a thimble.

It is excellent as a regular PC, though.

80 billion spent buying game studios with essentially nothing to show for it. Pretty amazing to think that money holds 0 value to these people.

Yes, it works. The state that I used to reside in has draconian DUI/Traffic laws, and not coincidentally low traffic death rates.

Driving with license revoked or suspended was a serious charge and resulted in impound of vehicle and mandatory jail time. Repeat offenders would have their vehicles seized.

DUI laws similarly brutal. 2nd time offenders faced potentially life-altering charges and penalties. Get into an accident with injury to another person while DUI? Huge jail time. Felony DUI results in permanent loss of driving privileges.

Speeding 20 over the limit? Enjoy your reckless driving charge which is as serious a dui charge.

I read that getting a license back after a 2nd dui carries and average cost of $50k. Getting 2 dui's within 10 years automatically bumped 2nd dui to felony....no more driving for you.

Lax driving laws and penalties do nothing more than get a lot of people killed.

Perhaps not, but Linux desktop marketshare doubled in 2024. It is still minuscule, but it doesn't take much for a movement like this to take off. Microsoft continues to make Windows 11 impossible to install for the average user up to and including not all that rare scenarios where it cannot be installed at all.

Conversely, 15 minutes to install, fully patched, and ready to go Linux distro is a hugely attractive alternative to Windows. There are 3 viable gaming distros, and the underlying tech continues to evolve. It is already invisible to most games.

The same thing we are doing now: nothing. The poor already aren't customers, and what remains of the middle class is already being priced out of basic necessities.

Have no fear, they are gunning for the upper class, now. A quick glance at big tech gutting their ranks is just the beginning for high wage earners.

History shall repeat itself, and many of those jobs will vanish forever.

I haven't tested the power draw, but I have the mainboard from Framework that I put into a larger ITX case for better cooling.

My main PC is a 7950X3D which has the same core count/threads as the Strix unit, and the Strix benches within margin of error as the 7950X3D. Which is to say the performance is the same.

That you can get the same computer power in a laptop is crazy.

I have one. Framework Desktop mainboard that I put into a larger ITX chassis and regular power supply.

It's fine for 1440p gaming. I don't use it for that, but it would not be a bother if that was all I had.

That's all there is to it. All these scum know they are buying stolen items, but they do it anyway. Same thing for catalytic converters and copper stolen from just about anywhere.

Drop long prison sentences and massive fines on these people, and this problem would vanish in short order.

Trained cashier? The local Lowe's and HD have little old ladies running the checkouts. They can't even lift most of the things I am buying, and have to scan them myself.

Supermarkets usually have old slow people running them. The only time I don't use self checkout is when I have alcohol, and it is slower every single time than doing it myself.

One foolish decision after another. Believing that the loans would be hand waived away was peak naivety.

And now, 2/3 of them are not even bothering to pay the loans. Good luck getting an apartment, house, car, or a top job with bad credit.

Borderline? He crossed that border a long time ago.

I bought a cellular GPS tracker for my PODS. It worked fine, and being able to track it every step of the way added a bit of stress relief.

It also came in really handy when the driver claimed his truck broke down and he wouldn't be able to drop it off on schedule. I told them I could physically see the container in the storage yard and would like it delivered on the agreed upon date. They dropped it off 20 minutes later.
