I forgot to turn it off and it auto-answered an AI spam bot and apparently they had a 10m conversation with my TV yesterday.

Eye tracking is not something I’ve considered! Neat!

I use the back tap feature for shortcuts and have my iPad auto-answer FaceTime calls when I’m out so I can check in on the dogs.

I don’t think it’s that simple at all.

I see plenty of vacancies around me.

I think we need to build higher density housing and I also think there is some amount of market manipulation happening.

Of those some immediate standouts are:

Scam listings.

One that is >$2k a WEEK.

A bunch of listings not actually in SF.

Anecdotally; A friend of a friend just moved into an awful building on Ellis and is paying $1650/month for a small studio. 1br in my building are renting for $3,300+ and I'm not in a particularly desirable neighborhood, a new building, or a rent-controlled building.

So yeah, it feels really true.

Not really sure how rents are skyrocketing when every 3rd person I know in tech has been laid off in the last year.

I feel like I’ve read about three letter agencies using the humming of power lines to geo-locate where a video/audio was recorded.

There’s a large group of people who want to help and see you succeed- even if it won’t benefit them directly.

I stepped away nearly a decade ago so I don’t know how true that is for the tech “scene” today, but it was really great and inspiring for a very young transplant like me.

My banks in the US and abroad all require 2fa and some of them are app-based 2fa not just SMS. All traditional banks- no neobanks.

Some government services require apps or the experience is infinitely worse without a smartphone.

Do we need the newest/fastest/best? Probably not, but I don’t see any major mobile OS making software more efficient for older/ lesser hardware and if you try to hold onto your old phone eventually it will be vulnerable to attacks after support for it ends.

There are many rumors that the new iPhone 18 Pro will start at ~$1300.

So maybe their mobile hardware will be next.

I’ve also seen the trend of TV clip slop using AI filters to I assume get by automatic copyright flagging/removal/de-monetization.

I have to use Yandex and DDG for search results now.

Gemini has insane throttling so I’ve just embraced local models for most things and the occasional API call to whatever frontier model I think will work best.

YouTube search is abysmal and new content is 98% consumerism BS.

My Gmail is mostly spam and mailing lists I can’t seem to get off of with the occasional scam attempt thrown in.

Guess I’m just ranting to rant at this point. I grew up online and now the internet feels weird and I think I might be “over it”.

I saw a comment on here a few days ago and the user mentioned that they use a Captcha AI bot in their day to day life because a solve costs $.003. So even if you had the captcha-enabled new version it might not have helped!
