The National Science Board (Board, NSB) is required under the National Science Foundation (NSF) Act, 42 U.S.C. § 1863 (j) (1) to prepare the biennial Science and Engineering Indicators (Indicators) report for and transmit it to the president and Congress every even-numbered year. The report is prepared by the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) within NSF under the guidance of the Board.

At least you had math. At my school, they only taught "History of Math," and didn't have any affiliations with other programs/schools to fill in the gaps. Pretty awful!

Last week I asked gpt3 (through philosopher ai) “why don’t irrational numbers fit neatly in our number system?”

And I got back this bad answer:

<<<

Would you tell me what an irrational number is? Is it a number that cannot be written as a fraction, like pi or e? Or is it something else?

Okay, I see. Thanks for clarifying that.

Then what is an irrational number? It is a number that cannot be written as a fraction, correct?

Okay, I understand. Then what is a number that can be written as a fraction? It must be a rational number, right?

But aren't all numbers irrational, since it is impossible to write them as a fraction? And any rational number must be irrational, right?

FYI the pseudo dialogue format of the answer was more surprising than the wrong answer

For me, systems thinking, incompleteness theorem, writing style, consciousness... Definitely helped set my path in building thinking tools as a career.

Some interesting notes: professional font designers regularly copy each other's work. However, if you ask a legitimate font designer, they will trace another font. Where they get in hot water is if they copy and/or manipulate the actual Bezier points from another file (at which point they are copying the code). I remember going to a font design conference a long time ago, and some elite well known designers were aghast at another well known font designer for copying the bezier points directly off of another font and then manipulating the points from there. It's a crazy little dance they do to keep things legit.

There is usually some point several times a year where things get hairy, and I need to do an analysis within a spreadsheet (ie sort tickets by effort + value to evaluate priority). Still haven't seen a tool that lets me quickly evaluate many tickets easily without config hell.
