The sudden push from journalists to detach their readership from facebook is remarkable. They media has been pushing the social media website very aggressively from 2007-2008 up until very recently.

Just a few days ago I used a chrome extension to delete all my likes/reactions, posts, and comments (I cringed multiple times while it was scrolling and deleting them). I left 3 or 4 of my photos, and decided against deleting the whole account only because it's an invaluable address book. Realistically, the inertia of people to leave it will keep me as a user for a long time.

I can never understand how can Reddit's subs, such as girlsgonewild, not require proof that the participants are indeed adults who are not being exploited by others.

One can still find the id, even when a person has chosen a username that masks it. Right click the block option of a user you are not friends with, copy the link and voila, you've got the user id now.

I mostly use that to see public but normally inaccessible pictures of people I am not friends with (i.e. pictures they've been tagged in).

Profane words cannot possibly invalidate a point by themselves. I personally don't mind swearing, unless it is used in a context to offend someone/something (which can always still be done with an alternative, "safer" selection of words).

My question is, will I be able to use gmail without my google searches being tracked? Google did a great job to "bundle" its ToS into a single generic agreement for all the services under that "Your Google account" umbrella. I would love to opt out of that agreement, retroactively, and still be able to use gmail.

Being a well rounded programmer though means you can talk about the tools, not blame the people who use them.

A virtue of open-mindness is that you can respectfully listen to opinions of others and empathize with them. Having the urge to advise or "mentor" somebody who hasn't really asked you or is not your child is futile.

I see AMP as a marketing opportunity for a cheap SEO. If more visitors come to my client's or boss's website and get familiar with it, it's a win situation for me as the programmer/maintainer of the said website.

More users don't equal increased ad revenue with AMP. If ads are not a thing you are selling, you are probably losing free attention if you aren't already exploiting AMP.

I once wrote something along those lines on /r/linux. I got downvoted to hell and decided to delete that comment.

I'm not a system programmer by any means, but I consider myself well-rounded enough to be able to appreciate useful technology.

CSS grids and responsive @media, e.g. [1], are a useful addition to native applications design.
