Yes from what I can tell :/
I was in the console/platform dev org so not a ton of insight into studios, but I've seen a ton of ESO and Id folks posting on twitter

Impacted non-studio dev here. It's a bloodbath like some of the leaks in the past few weeks have said. Many important platform/infra teams getting gutted, even in areas where there's supposedly a ton of future investment.

lol
congrats to Valve on the launch!
Love Jet Lag! I think Snake was a good idea but didn't turn out so well in execution. The game design of their current season in Taiwan has been great
Have any links?
First AWS/Azure/Cloudflare and now HN?!?
I played sports & had whooping cough in high school and it rendered me useless for like 4 months. Not fun.
One of my favorite darknet diaries episodes is about corporate whistleblowing, it's a huge business. If you get a massive 1M+ payout, chances are the company is getting just as much (if not more).
The Steam Deck has essentially enabled money laundering through Steam. Before the Deck, if you sold skins on the marketplace you could only use your Steam credit to buy games on the platform, or you had to do a shady 3rd party Paypal exchange. Now, you can use your Steam credits to buy a device with value that you can resell IRL.
This is actually pretty cool. We have a similar custom library at Xbox that's used extensively across all of our services.
I do wish that there was some kind of self-hostable World implementation at launch. If other PAAS providers jump onto this, I could see this sticking around.
I remember going on this site in middle school. I now have a degree and can actually understand the code being written here... time flies
... is this still possible?
(my college frisbee team is on slack)
Former MSFT gaming intern here. The internal conversations around accessibility are fantastic, you all are killing it.
This guide is the only reason I passed my school's version of CMU's CS:APP (malloc)
Huge shoutout to Beej!
I'm pretty floored by Unity's decision. Even after their partial walkback (saying devs will only be charged for the first game install, not EVERY game install) it's still a crazy way to monetize instead of profit sharing.
Unity appeals way more to hobbyist devs getting into game dev, and from what I've seen has significantly more resources and tutorials online than Unreal. Hopefully we see the same resources start to be published en-masse for Godot.
Holy shit
Without scratch I would not have connected with programming the way I did when I was a kid. Fantastic program, and a great community as well.
Valve made a game again!
TF2 when :)
I would love for Cities Skylines to implement some kind of multiplayer or online collaborative option.
I've been seeing a lot more of these Meta engineering articles on HN - I'm a fan! If you're writing them, keep up the great work!
According to what I've seen on /r/livestreamfail (take everything with the finest grain of salt possible), it was only one twitch employee who took money, and they have since passed away.
4080 -> $900/1200, 4090 -> $1600
What the hell Nvidia. Post EVGA breakup, this is a bad look. Seems like they're setting MSRP ridiculously high in order to undercut board partners down the line.
For me it was creating a minecraft server for my friends. I looked up Youtube tutorials, got help from my dad to port forward, and started installing plugins.
Then it was Minecraft mods. Back in the day you had to "unzip" the Minecraft jar file and manually drag and drop new classes into the jar. You also had to delete META-INF, good times.
College student here. Scratch was my first real introduction to programming. It's an amazing tool, and a great way to get anybody started with programming
Work :(
I'm honestly not sure at this point why Juul is on the chopping block. I'm a college student, and Juul took off during my sophomore year of high school. They absolutely marketed to teenagers and created a dangerous product, but they're no longer the biggest player in the game.
By my senior year of high school, most kids had moved on to disposable vapes. From what I know, they're about the same price, you don't have to worry about recharging them (and having a teacher/parent ask you about your "usb stick"), and have the same number of hits
Juul should absolutely be fined/etc for marketing to children and starting the vaping epidemic in high schools, but the FDA is years too late on that front

I originally found this link 2 days ago from this HN discussion on the troubled teen industry: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30819756. I sat through and read the entire thing in one sitting. It's gripping and incredibly horrifying at the same time.
Their turnaround from the m1 max to the ultra has been shocking. I thought they would slow down for a least a year before pumping out something new, but clearly not.
