I find the best arrangement is spending a month or at least two weeks in Norway during the summer. I prefer to stay around Stryn. You can do some what I consider good drive outings in every direction. Because the day is longer it’s perfect for going into rabbit holes, hacking something together to explore new tech and just plan out what’s next. The scenery and the very friendly folks helps too. Only tough thing right now is it’s hard to find things to do for kids. I have not found a summer camp for non-Norwegian speaking kids. This definitely limits how much hacking is done.
Opencv while not niche is also one of them. It’s definitely preventing me from going full in on rust. Probably for a while.

From all the comments in this thread it seems like everyone is in agreement Denmark has less bureaucracy. Is it also a better place to set up a company? Do more companies get acquired from Denmark than Germany?
I think there are people that simply cannot afford to go lower than 400k if you’re looking in the Bay Area. Or it’d take a relatively big hit in lifestyle. Mortgages are really expensive, kids in school or day care, payment to the new Rivian, etc. Just offering perspective of the other side for the forum.
This song is also used in the intro to the film Hackers. To me, it set the tone for the film. In middle school, I’d run and watch the film in the morning and learn to program in the afternoon to late at night. It was such a magical song and allowed me discover similar music from the era.
Can you expand on what you mean by this? I researched online for this reference and consulted with some colleagues while discussing this topic but none of them could figure out what you mean by when the balloon goes up.
From my observation it’s all about comfort. Having reports, especially ones with their own, who share your own background makes communication more frank. In other words, like a sibling, they all share the same state, it makes your job easier. It’s very hard to leave the comfort zone. I’ve seen leadership chain made up entirely white guys in their 50s because the guy at the top has a type. For me, mine are diverse but all are kids of immigrants or recent immigrants from Europe, Africa, Asia and West Indies. When everyone are qualified we tend to go with what we’re comfortable with. It’s unfortunate.
Anyone knows what tech stack peloton uses and what was the cause? How would you have done differently?
There’s a movie directed by Wim Wenders called “Until the End of the World” with tech similar to this. It’s a Pay phones actually, where you’d flip the arm with the screen up attached up to make a call and down to end a call.
The movie is really an alternate universe where tech like this is ubiquitous. There’s something about the late 90s / early 00s vision for tech future I have an increasingly difficult time grasping today.

I’m considering moving the family to Austin but have mostly been only looking at the new suburb developments in the south- and northwest.
This looks good and functions very nicely. However, the playhead in the progress bar moves in discreet steps. It'd be better if its movement is smoother. the playhead inside https://beta.music.apple.com unfortunately behaves the same way.
