If we could send all the terraformers from earth to mars we would so solve both problems at the same time

I wish them same regulation would be enforced on toothbrushes
I wonder if there is a universal limit for speed per lines of code. The one the we think the light has
That's your answer? "Next time"?
And we are running out of time
If singularity premise is correct, then i think it should must already had happened in our cluster of the universe. Since it hasn't yet, then there are 3 options. 1st: earth and earthlings are special, which is too egocentric notion to be taken seriously. 2nd: we are being observed for entertainment by high conciousness. That could explain a lot, though this removes agency and prevents us from reaching that moment on our own (but maybe the observers are curious to find that out). 3rd: the extinction and annihilation of so-called intelligence once it obliterates all the resources in vicinity. Of course there is option number 4, but ultimately the question, what is the point of that?
It's funny to think that all this discussion would not be happening if not for naive idealism embraced by software people fo decades, which enabled sharing everything they made after working hours for free and for everyone. That all it was hijacked by a handful of rich and not very altruistic people to enslave everyone comes as a big surprise. Who would have thought. I guess we arent that smart after all
No worries, tomorrow it shall be back
America. Where hypocracy is a virtue
Yes, you should discuss only what is allowed. If you use the technology to dissent against your rulers, then it should be switched off (until you come back to your sense and submit yourself to the mercy of mulas).
We could have euro championship, no problem. Any other boycoting country could also join.
The article didnt mention that following the chain the command to perform crimes doesnt prevent from having legal responsibility with Nurnberg process being a very known example.
The history will be not merciful on neither people who initiated this, nor who enabled it or stayed silent while the crimes were performed using there names as a mandate.
Yes, the engineers should not be discussing the purpose of the tools they are making. That makes the process much more efficient
Hubris comes before the fall.
I wouldn't be surprised that the fotoshoot session was in fact demanded as a prerequisite to have the meeting in the first place
My 1st guess is that they made Ribentrop-Molotov deal last year in Alaska. 2nd guess he is drunk on power and inpunity. Or maybe both.
That's exactly what Trump's is looking for - an excuse to break up and to open doors for Putin on the east flank. Same old story, meanwhile there is no counterreaction from freedom loving populace of the blessed country. That's all one needs to know.
My question: are those people who were building crappy, brittle software, which was full of bugs and and orher suboptimal behavior, that were the main reasons of slowing down the evolution that software, will they now begin writing better software because of AI? Answering yes, implies that the main reason of those problems was that those developers didn't have enough time to spend on analyzing those problems or to build protection harnesses. I would stronly argue that was not the case, as the main reason is of intelectual and personal nature - inability to build abstractions, to follow up the route causes (thus not aquiring necessary knowledge), or to avoid being distracted by some new toy. In 2-5 years I expect the industry going into panic mode, as there will be a shortage of people who could maintain the drivel that is now being created en masse. The future is bright for those with the brains, just need to wait this out
I'm getting sick of it, and considering to stop my 18 eur/mnth contribution
If Greenland is taken over by US, Windows will be your least of the problem. But tunnel vision is oh-so-common in Europe, both between politics and populace
Agentic coding is just another rhyme of 25 y/o frenzy of "let's outsource everything to India." The new generation thinks this time is really special with us. Let's check again in 25 years
In 2018 We had kubernetes, which improved the development speed another 300%!
Any hoax can be easily fought, if the punishment of getting caught is severe enough.
The problem is the justice system, that is optimized to protect a criminal and to offload the costs to the society, which is happy to be distracted with identity and moral supemacy arguments.
During 1st Cloudflare outage StackOverflow was down too.
Precisely, while LLMs fail at complexity, DSLs can represent thise divide-and-conquer intermediate levels to provide the most overall value and with good accuracy. LLMs should make it easier to build DSLs themselves and to validate their translating code. The onus then is on the intelligent agent to identify and design those DSLs. This would require the true and deep understanding of the domain and an ability to synthesize, abstract and to codify it. I predict this will be the future job of today's programmer, quite a bit more complicated than what is today, requiring wider range of qualities and skills, and pushing those specializing in coding-only to irrelevance.
I bet that most of those products are created by their own "AI". They must already be using AI product owners, developers, testers, as their human counterparts are only sitting their in their chairs and only busy training their AI simulation and moderating their output. Next logical step will be AI doing that with the human folks hitting the street, then recursively ad infinitum. They will reach the glorified singularity there really soon!
At least there was some good music back then that you coulf cling to and have hope
Wow, stop dreaming, just look the front page of the news, to understand that there will never be abundance, but plenty of suffering on planet Earth, despite what the shills in your cozy corner of it are spinning
To the first list also add the typical mediocre developer who has struggled for their entire career, never investing in acquiring deep understanding of how things work, and who is making guesses when attempting to fix things, later blaming the magic behind them. For those people the magic of LLMs is just the same, they are comfortable with it, and will be giving the same excuses that they are used to, even more so now.
It's like saying I never like carpentering, but hey that great ikea thing (or 3d printer), we all now can have nice furniture for pennies! Except it's not nice furniture, it's not for pennies and you still really need carpenters for building houses.
