I have an eithical dilemma for you. As of now on an average 33000 ppl are killed in road accidents in USA. Lets say Tesla's or other ICE makers' autopilot reduces this to 20000 deaths. But of those 20000 deaths, say 2000 were purely because of autopilot alogrithm which wouldn't have happened if there was no autopilot. As a regulator what will you do. Approve autopilot because it saved 13000 people or ban it because 2000 were killed just because of it? I know how this will play in media. Unfortunately autopilot will be demonized and most likely will get banned.

People completely miss this point (some deliberately so). At least in Europe, as each year progresses, the number of grams/km allowed will keep going down. It is 95g/km for this year. Thos who miss will have to pay a fine. FCA is pooling with Tesla to avoid this. Ford will miss due to fire hazard debacle. So on. Now even if the ICE makers are able to meet 95 gms/kms now, next year it will become harder. ICE innovation is not fast enough to keep up with regulation. Only way to avoid fines is to accelerate the EV+ICE mix. Some will do this not all. And this will hit their profitability. They have huge sunk cost on ICE side. They can't willy nilly junk that investment and move over to EVs. This mostly implies the legacy car makers will have to keep paying fines to EU or to pool with Tesla and subisidies the competitors growth. Win win for Tesla.

Thanks for this. I don't know why people make easily disprovable statements. Do they think their ability to mislead is greater than peoples ability to read financial statements? Furtermore, CNBC brought on the "biggest" bear Gordon Johnson. He used the same technique to mislead. He used Tesla's update that they are now at 840K installed capacity, to claim that they have always been at that capacity and since guidance is to hit 500K, there is a drop in demand. This was a galling attempt to mislead and to prop up his own analysis.

I am stuck too in my work. I can't quit because of my commitments (also i am too scared to quit and be on my own). Any way. One thing I know is that I do well when I am learning new stuff. So my goal for next 5 years: learn Quantum Computing inside out. This means Physics/Math/Programming in new paradigm. So I have my hands full. So find what makes you feel better and do it. So what you are saying is a person looks at $4 a gallon and thinks hey lets buy a Tesla which costs $100K. And suddenly the same person will say no reason to buy a Tesla because now a gallon costs $2. This person doesn't sound like the sharpest tool in the set.

Yes. People kill people. But people don't kill other people with bare hands. May be they do but it would be such a minute fraction that it is not worth talking about. So given that people do need weapons to kill other people which weapon is more destructive given the current statistics. Right now there are about 30000+ gun deaths in USA. Of that about ~18000 are homicides. Which other weapon can cause so many deaths? If we allowed people to carry grenades, C4, tanks, or even nuclear weapons on a regular basis we would see lot more people getting killed. But we don't allow that. Given this scenario allowing free availability of guns is what is causing these many deaths. This is borne out by statistics from other countries which ban such free availability and use of guns. So yes people kill people. But it wont be so easy to kill so many people if guns are restricted to law enforcement officials.

Regarding the correct form of don't panic, I am with you. I have absolutely no clue when it comes to Latin {on the other hand I can talk my way out of any situation in more than a few south Indian languages}. I was fooling around with Google translate and wanted a short form and settled on "ne pavor".

I used the Greek transliteration because I absolutely love how Greek letters look in latex.

Regarding the "h" : When I was choosing the nick name I thought there was an "h" in zaphod and realized the mistake way too late to change it in so many different places.
