Zero. Russia has plenty of regular weapons to level Ukraine and big part of Europe (look at thermobaric bombs). It also has industry and resources to produce such weapons for long period of time.

And it considers Ukraine ethnically related. Many Russians have relatives in Kiev etc.. Using nukes on Ukraine would be huge political problem.

It is FUD spread by trigger happy westerners, who want to normalize nuclear war!

Attach diesel generator on trailer, and charge it while moving. Some EV cars use electricity from coal or natural gas, there is no difference...

Or skip battery, and use electricity from generator. It is called diesel-electric and is reliable way to produce EV vehicles. Well tested on cars, trains, tanks, boats even submarines...

JavaFX 19 4 years ago

Kotlin folks are working on something like that. There is multiplatform UI toolkit that targets native, android, java desktop, web and who knows what. I do not remember the name (Synergy, Fusion?, jetpack?)

There is also plausible deniability. Speech on meeting is not recorded, is vague, can be misinterpreted etc... Easy to spot, if there are no meeting minutes, transcript or any other document as result from meeting.

Doing this sort of manipulation over email or slack is way more difficult.

I dont want to argue about this specific case.

But if direct manager promises pay increase or promotion, it is not binding or "official" as well.

But this was the first case! Very important project for legal compliance, not some sort of abandonware nobody cared about. I had enough skills to put it on track, on official assignment from higher management.

Are they meritocracy? How does it go with diversity and other noble goals? The only way for highly productive individual to get fair salary is to start their own business and do consulting. Or do shady stuff like over-employment!

That was official work, very senior manager pulled me out of project, and temporarily assigned me to different division. Not my fault paper work and finances between divisions never got sorted out, I did not even had access to that stuff!

Really bad advice! Hard work does not pay, corporations are not meritocracy.

About 15 years ago, our corporation had orphaned project. Entire team of 5 developers quit without notice (found other job). Horrible code, no documentation, no tests, no spec, not even build system (was on one of the developers laptop). There was important deadline 6 months away.

I stepped up, worked 16 hours a day four couple of months, eventually got project back on track, and trained new team. As reward I got put on PIP (performance improvement plan) and eventually got fired.

Problem was:

- I worked for other division, for my manager I was dead weight. It was sort of emergency reassignment and paper work never got ironed out.

- I mostly worked from home, come to office barely. Some coworkers thought I left. Not keeping appearances was main excuse for getting me PIPed.

- My project was 1 month behind the schedule. I missed the important deadline.

- Senior manager who initiated my work quit, leaving me behind.

I am not sure what is the lesson here. But now I work in remote job, where I can do all my weekly work in about two hours. Way happier now.

Edit: this was official assignment from very senior manager within company. I saved them a lot of money on fines!

Not just developers, but lawyers, accountants, analysts... I think you grossly underestimate complexity of this thing.

We implemented relatively simple income tax reform a few decade ago in small EU jurisdiction. But law makers were very vague in some important details, and there were about 8 different interpretations. We had to implement, run and support all 8 versions for couple of years, until they decided on final interpretation. Non compliance would be fine of couple of million euro.

And that was tiny country of 5 million people with clean newly written laws. Not babylon with 300 years of baggage like US.

SAP can be quite innovative.

I remember SAP circa 2003. The only think that used XMLHttpRequest (AJAX aka dynamic html) was Outlook web frontend, and SAP web UI. GMail that widely popularized dynamic html did not even existed yet.

Been there, now II have 15 cards from 6 different banks.

There is also problem with deposit insurance. In EU deposit in single bank is insured upto 100k euro. If bank bankrupts, you loose anything over that. So it is better to spread deposits across multiple banks, each with 100k euro deposit.

And by aware that many banks are owned by the same group, and use just different brand as front. Insurance is per bank license, not per bank brand.

I had covid, pretty mild, flu was worse.

Damage from all the lockdowns was devastating. My business and marriage fall apart, lost many friends, became alcoholic and now I have heart problems from overweight.

I have Dell XPS 13 2015 (9350). It gets fair abuse and fell on floor couple of times. Over years I replaced keyboard, battery, charging port, bottom plate from case (display hinge broke). All parts are on ebay for like $50 and can be replaced with a screedriver and YouTube video. I decided to keep this laptop indefinitely and just keep replacing parts. I also have spare laptop of the same type, so I can just swap SSDs or parts if it breaks. It is still decent machine, 7 hours on battery, 1.2 kg, nice touch display, excellent keyboard, 16GB RAM, USB-C charging....

From my workstation I need 64GB RAM, good cooling and many ports (4x displays etc). I do not feel any current laptop provides that. And I do not want to pay $7000 premium for decent machine. So at end I decided for mini PC (Asus PN 52). It is 1kg tiny box, can be carried daily and is very cost effective.

Who would top talent work for somebody else? It is remote, but you still have to deal with meetings, HR, woke bs, egomaniac visions... And there is always a risk that startup fails...

It is pretty easy to start your own project, with some consulting on a side.

lawsuit about alleged casteism

Why is it just not called racism? Introducing new terms kind of derails the problem.

India (and Africa, China, Asia...) has a system where people with lighter skin are consider as "better". People with fair (whiter) skin are considered aristocracy, that never had to work outside on fields.

And castes could not intermarry for couple of thousands of years, it is legitimate to consider them as a race.

Why they would not work there? Most people are happy to get a job that pays rent and living expenses. Have you seen rents recently? If you can choose your employer based on some arbitrary criteria, you are quite privileged!

that is pretty cheap, compared to europe after all taxes... 31k gets you fake SUV on sedan platform, not F150
