I am starting a new project, which requires to be GUI primarily for macOS, but also Windows.

Swift is a lovely language, but had to go with C#+Avalonia, which can give me truly multi-platform app. If only SwiftUI was properly supported on Windows, that would be great.

For now, .NET/C# + Avalonia seems the most convenient way to write Desktop apps, well, if you don't want to pay for Delphi ;)

Whereabout you plan to move?

I have Lenovo W530 from around 2012 or so. It has Nvidia K1000M card, full of RAM, i7. I kept upgrading it over the years and used Windows.

I have decided to get back to FreeBSD, I used it as desktop 2002-2009 or so.

Downloaded 15.0, start install, wifi driver works perfectly, out of the box. Promising start, never seen before with FreeBSD.

Installed. Next, lets go to setup, graphics and Wayland. And here we started again, same story, hundred magic params to add, nvidia drivers doesn't work properly, install older version, is incompatible with Wayland etc. Need to go back to Xorg, another set of problems.

Ok, if I spent another 8 hours and asked for help in forums as it was 20+ years ago, I could have probably made it work. Until the next issue showed up.

So I decide to drop it, download CachyOS. Start installer. It detects K1000M, installs old version of Nvidia drivers, KDE, sorts out all compatibility issues, everything just flies, flawlessly. As never before, not even Ubuntu or Fedora.

CachyOS guys, thank you, you made an incredible work on getting it all to this state. Absolutely great.

Now don't get me wrong, I love FreeBSD, used it as my main driver for years in early 2000s, started my career with it and it has sweet spot in my heart, forever. It's just that laptop support is not there, still terrible, as it was 20 years ago. PS last laptop I used it successfully on, was Sony Vaio VGN-FS550 from 2005!

No jet should be on rails.

If you don't trust the software, don't install it.

Despite what majority are defending here, I love how Zig phrased out their blog. We're not in fake enterprise, where HR is guiding your language, calling you family and then fire you whenever convenient to them.

This language by Andrew is natural, real and should be valued more than anything else. Thank you, it's a refresher and it reminds me an old internet, where everyone been really free to write what and how they wanted it to be.

What about more people using it? More than anything this looks to be natural evolution of language.

TL;DR:

* Kotlin with compose multi platform started catching up and winning the market.

* Apple got worried and started supporting Swift on android, not fully yet, UI only available with external tools.

* Qt with C++ still winning it all.

* People realizing that they don't need this Kotlin / Swift play started writing mobile apps in game engines: Unreal, Godot, Unity.

I always go for Qt for this(with C++ for bigger project and Python for lighter).

There's also Delphi, which ticks all the nice boxes for UI requirements. But licencing is tricky there, not everything is available in community edition and more difficult to find support / developers for the project. Having said that, it's still great.

Kotlin with compose multiplatform shaping up too, so something to test out if it matches your current requirements.

Quite a few options there. Never really a problem.

Python, along with C++ enjoys the benefits of Qt. You can build great stuff with cross-platform Qt. And it won't be webview(Electron / Tauri) based.

I don't know why people complain much about it. In UK especially. For example all EU citizens, after Brexit been "marked", with sort of digital ID.

1. You cannot open bank account without presenting share code from gov.uk, which shows your photo and right to stay and work when generated. 2. You cannot rent without presenting same share code. 3. You cannot go on cruise ship without presenting that. 4. Employers cannot hire you without presenting that code.

Codes are temporary, you login, generate and share that.

It's very much digital ID that's been in place for many years by now. So getting it to everyone makes sense, either "mark" everyone in a country or "mark" no one. And EU citizens been "marked" for a while and tested on with that system.

I've recently removed the fancytooling out of my pipeline, and re-done Jira on LibreOffice's Calc.

And with native python it has, I can query snapshots from Jira, add inputs etc.

So much simpler, you open Calc's window and just hop faaaast through sheets. Rather than opening your browser, typing URL, entering Jira, getting into correct board etc.

Need a to-do list? There too, just another sheet. Need to track your deployments? Just pull it into yet another sheet.

The sheet is everything you really need.
