I don't trust China's population numbers at all. Officially before the one child policy they were at 800 million. After 30 years of 1 child policy somehow they were at 1.2 billion. The math isn't mathing. How do you have explosive population growth when birth control is brutally enforced?

The official fertility rates for that period was 1.3. For reference: 2.1 is the replacement rate.

If anything their total population went down during one child policy.

Honestly, I'm not really sure.

I assume regret. Perhaps someone else will take it and finish it release it on steam and make bank. Who knows.

Part of the reason of asking the question is I was hoping to hear from other people who have done something similar so they can share their experience and feelings on the matter.

I mean saying ALL estimations are wrong is exaggeration.

As they say, "Even a broken clock is right twice a day"

This has been my experience. I don't disagree with the content of the article, really just the exaggerated title.

Every now and again we do get a 100% correct estimation. It doesn't happen often. In fact it's quite rare. But its more than never.

Its true that we (Americans) don't have a the right to free speech with a private company.

But that doesn't mean we should stop talking about it.

Clearly there is reason to believe people cannot express themselves freely enough.

When all modes of modern communication are privately owned and there are no government run equivalents it does kind limit expression.

Nowadays you are limited to where exactly that you can express yourself within your first amendment rights?

Let's see, a police station, a courthouse, a town hall meeting, and a protest.

Did I miss any?

Nothing on your smart phone that is for sure.

None of these places have reach or exposure equivalent to facebook, twitter, youtube, etc.

Change cannot come if we refuse to acknowledge the existence of a problem. We cannot bring about meaningful change by refusing to talk about an issue.

There are many ways to solve this issue, but ignoring it or saying that all is as intended is not one of them.

We must demand meaningful change from our governments.

I can't count how many stories lately I have read where some algorithm determined that someone's google account was in violation of one of google's rules and it will not tell them what is wrong specifically, and there is essentially no hope of appeal either because that is automated as well.

And someone looses other things that seem unrelated. Do something weird or uncommon with google adsense, loose your google drive too.

Personally, I haven't experienced this kind of bs yet. But at this point, I don't want to take chances with using another google service that could suddenly shutoff with no explanation and no hope to resolve the issue and taking out who knows what else at the same time.

As with anything else, use your intuition, read between the lines, follow the incentives/money.

Based on the rating they give it does seem like a questionable source.

But if you want to go down that rabbit hole of who is or who isn't a questionable source based on some fact-checker you will eventually reach the question, how do we know that our fact-checker isn't biased? who funds the fact-checker, are there any political motivations over-ruling journalistic integrity, etc. And then eventually you arrive at a fact-checker that fact-checks other fact-checkers. And you can keep going down that rabbit hole forever or you can learn to use your intuition.

I will also say this: Even a broken clock is right twice per day.

And in the same vein, Even a questionable source can write an article based on facts every now and then.
