There is also a lot of evidence contradicting the Whorf hypothesis. In <The Language Instinct> by Steven Pinker, Pinker suggests that humans think with separate thought-modules and then only express the substance of thoughts through arbitrary languages.

That being said, I think there is something to be said for diversity of culture, and perhaps better more fluid translation services are the true solution.

e^x = 1 + x + x^2/2! + x^3/3! + ... thus e^ix = 1 + ix + ix^2/2! + ix^3/3! + .. e^ix = (1 - x^2/2! + x^4/4! + ..) + i(x - x^3/3!+x^5/5!+...) implies e^ix = cosx + isinx

because those parenthetical quantities are the taylor series for cosx and sinx respectively

So, e^i(pi) = cos(pi) + isin(pi). = -1 + i(0) = -1

This is so true. In fact, I'd wager that my perl skills are ultimately the most valuable component of my resume. I learned perl in 10th grade by hacking on AIM robots, messing around with the Net::AIM module I found on CPAN.

Then I got a job [still in 10th grade] writing a robot for some woman in Canada. This was fundamentally a huge thing, because it opened my eyes to the possibility that I, despite my lack of formal credentials, could generate income based on my skillset.

Honestly I haven't touched perl in years, and now most of my hacking is in PHP/JavaScript, and honestly I'm happy that I don't have to deal with perl anymore...but it definitely gives me some cred.

Haha, no way! This is great news. Now, I only wish I had access to my Facebook chat list within my Gmail client. I already have both AIM and GChat rolled into one, and that's great. Then, I just need an iPhone client, and some way to integrate it with both texting and email.

Exchange for chat + email + texting, all specced out with an API for easy integration into browser-side clients...

I actually have pretty good handwriting, so no. My handwriting has perhaps only improved from years on the keyboard. Coding and related pursuits are, for me, creative activities; my handwriting, I feel, is a manifestation of this temperament.
