The current situation in the US is the depressing thing- articles like this give me hope. Real Americans aren't having these BS authoritarian violations of our constitutional rights.

Any change in behavior? Is that a joke? Setting aside the masked men terrorizing our communities, immigrants are being literally tortured inside camps across the country. They are being treated worse than criminals- tortured. Abused. What's happening right now is horrific, and the dehumanization propaganda can only be compared to Hitler's vilification of the jews.

Nah, it's your support for lawless authoritarianism because you think it will improve your safety- that's the part you missed in history class. That's the con you are falling for. The truth is that once authoritarianism takes hold, nobody is safe. Many Germans who thought the Nazi's would only target "bad people" learned this the hard way.

Setting aside their lawlessness, it sounds like we agree they are unidentifiable, meaning their identity is a secret. So they are a secret police. And you support that for some reason, maybe because you haven't read a single history book.

As I noted, this post is saying AI can't achieve "genius" level creativity. Just a year ago the criticisms were that it couldn't match a human. How is that not moving the goalposts?

Hey look, the goalposts are being moved again. This time it's from top end researcher to generational genius. Question: what evidence is there that this benchmark will not be reached also? Time and again these essays make the mistake of assuming AI is a static thing, and refuse to acknowledge the inexorable march forward we are witnessing. As humans, we cling to our own fragile superiority. Even on this thread- I thought Hinton said the world would be transformed by now. That's NOT what was claimed. We are like three years in! Posts like this will be laughable in 10 years.

So Deep Research and the latest reasoning models don't deserve mention here? I wish there was accountability on the internet, so that people posting stuff like this can be held accountable a year from now.

Advertising has gotten out of control. What's bizarre to me is that the people violating us are literally the ones who want something from us. Is there no way to boycott anyone advertising in our car? AND the car itself of course.

You are asking two different questions here. In house vs contractors is one. The second is whether you should be using a third party product.

My advice would be to continue using contractors, but different ones, and focus their attention on building a better product.

No? The human brain has ~100 billion neurons and ~1 trillion connection weights. Google’s PaLM uses ~540 Billion nodes with ~100 trillion connection weights.

And the key point is this- these models are the worst they will ever be, and are gaining size at pace. So even if you we grant the argument that our brains are still a bit more complex, hopefully we can agree that will not be the case in 5 years. Heck, how about 20 years, or 100? Let's be real.

Where in the article does the author justify their core thesis, that LLM's will not automate work? The only argument I see is that it hasn't happened yet, which is hardly the same thing.

In particular, I think there's a nice overlap between my description of self-awareness and yours. You mention a model capable of seeing its own output, but I take it a step further and indicate model capable of generating its own simulated actions and results. Curious what you think, thanks!

You're making this harder than it needs to be. Things that have self awareness via an internal world map can be considered conscious, meaning self aware. A rock has no such mechanism. Most animals including humans do.
